^yes, exactly. any car can reach 100+ and that's when they will start losing control of the vehicle. it's a problem with the driver NOT the vehicle - though the vehicle aids in the behaviour, the vehicle is NOT to blame.

So really, the recommendations made: driving school, defensive courses etc are in the right direction, instead of saying "ban high performance cars" fullstop.

I dont really agree, i think a performance car eg.turbo car you get rush of acceleration, you can be out of control at 60k and MOST young drivers are a bit immature and will do some street racing or burnouts, a boring type of car with more linear power delivery eg. commodore/falcon is more controllable, better still they should be restricted to a small 4cylinder 2L.

even if they go out and do some defensive driving, that probably makes them feel even more invincible with there ego and testosterone flowing, until they loose control killing an innocent civilian with a family, then there balls might drop for a short time...

Turbo diesels are exempt from the turbo ban.

Not all turbo deisels are exempt.

Ill google

EDIT: After googling I'm proven wrong, time to buy a V8 turbo diesel Porche Mr P plater

When I did mine they made us lose control so we could see how easy it is and how none of us knew hoe to recover it. Depends on the course, I did a second one through my insurance company to get a reduction on my premium and it was crap. Mostly theory and only very simple prac, my car ('00 Integra at the time) passed even the tests that it was supposed to fail.

After all this is said though nothing will stop some young people being idiots, you can only arm them with the knowledge to make better decisions.

Where is this info from, Im under the impression that no cars have been crushed at all in Australia and you need to be doing something pretty stupid for the police to impound a car.

The police are there to enforce the law, dont brake the law or be a tool and you will not have problems, easy.

I have never had a problem with the police unless it was my fault, even my stupidly modified car has never had a problem, maybe because I did it right and had it engineered and legal for use on NSW roads.

They were crushing cars here in SA (I live here) but have since stopped due to a court challenge.

Nearly 300 cars were crushed.

I think it is a great idea restricting these cars from younger drivers..

At the end of the day they're the ones usually doing stupid sh*t in them and making what ever car they drive a target for the media and police. I hope these kids get put in Camry's. Only reason a young person wants a turbo is to go fast and drive like an idiot!

It's all about ego and status at that age and a performance car in the eyes of their friends and girls boosts both.

No wonder kids want performance cars... Put it this way, your 16 and want to impress a certain girl at school... She ain't gettIng hot over a friggin' Volvo.... But a WRX or Skyline. Young ones don't always buy these cars cause the

Have a passion for them like most of us do... They buy what ever boosts their status... Hence Tapout, UFC brand clothes. Lol!

All the p plate laws mean is that it will take someone longer to acheive the speed they want to get up to...

It just means instead of a p plater going 180kmh in a WRX, they are now in a rust bucket VN Commodore with blown out shocks going 180kmh.

A VN commodoore and a high powered turbo are worlds apart, how do you think a P plater will go hitting the load pedal in a VN compared to a 500hp turbo car for example.

Not many VN's will break traction on a thrird gear roll.

This way they have some time in lower powered cars before jumping on something they cannot control.

Bit like the bike laws, when I got my bike licence in 1981 I did my test on a GSX1100, there were lots of kids riding big bore bikes, and lots of kids dying, lowered the L leagal down to 250 and the deaths slowed down "a bit"

Experience is something that is gained over time, not attitude, I'm 47 yrs old, have done numerous driver training courses, assist driver training courses at work on both black top and cross country and I am still learning every time I get behind the wheel.

But there will always be idiots on the street killing themselves and people around them because they think they are awesome/hecktik/macho/to cool for rules.

Its not so bad if they only kill themselves, but usually they kill others and walk away.

The Media has this bubbling along

Lets report all the high drama news so we sell more papers or get higher ratings

Let the Gov get serious and start some driver training in school, what a stupid idea to let someone's parents be the one to teach them to drive

I was lucky and was into karting before I got on the road, learned how a car is a weapon if you let it get out of control, you are just along for the ride till something solid stops it
