I have owned a few skylines but before this R33 but we had it for around 2 years now and it spent most of the time parked on the driveway as I had my white R34 “GTNAH” and thought I can build the R33 to be my thrasher/Track car at the same time. The project started sometime last year working with my brother but here is a run down of the events that took place

Other than the multi colors, It all started something like this:

Unregistered

1995 RB25det s1.5

R34 turbo

Front mount

3” Exhaust

HD clutch

Stock wheels

Genuine Impul skirts and rear bumper

Test fitting my R34 wheels (Rota P45 R2 18x10 +12) - just to check out the stance!

KKR480 Turbo

Wolf 3D ECU

External wastegate

Change fluids

Change thermostat and Fuel filter

E Boost controller

Upgrade Coilpacks

Apexi ECV

Upgrade fuel pump

GTR seats

GTR front bumper

Oil catch can

Cold Air Box and ducting

The plan was to keep it simple but for most projects things don’t always go according to plan so a fibre glass bonnet got in the mix.

Managed to settle for a set of XXR wheels in 18x9.75 all around but needed to run 15mm spacers on front to clear the brakes and roll the guards. Also got myself a set of Tein HA coilovers to make it to the desired ride height

Then a BN kit was sourced and due to the poor status of the paint and the clear coat, it was sanded down and prepared for a respray then got lazy and sprayed clear over primer and it turned out this way. However this will only be a temp job for now until I figure out what color to paint it ... any suggestions??

Is the BN kit genuine? Whenever I see a BN kit on a 33 it always makes me want one, without a doubt my favourite kit for the 33. Makes them look really tough and reckon the BN works great with the stock lines, chuck some wheels on with a decent offset and that'll really set it all of really well.

What track set up are you going for? Drift? Circuit? Hill climbs? Looking forward to seeing how this develops mate.

The BN kit is not genuine but its a pretty decent copy and fits nicely without any drama.

I was looking into going for the wider fenders and a set of Volk GT-C 2's in 18x9 -14 fronts and 19x10.5 -8 for the rears

The inspiration came from this cool R33 from the UK. However I decided to settle without volks and widebody for the time being.

Managed to get the kit fitted and the car out of the drive way. Still needs the spolier fitted so its either going to be the s2 that I have or a drift lip but either way here is what it looks like at the moment... sitting pretty low just enough to avoid scraping around

Next on the list will be the GTR seats

Ok there has been another change. Since most of the engine/turbo setup is currently stock, I thought it might be a good idea to get the thing registered first before moving forward with the mods so it can be driven when needed

knowing non of the pits in WA would pass the car as it looked, the BN kit had to go for now to be more street friendly so I decided to put the genuine Impul rear bumper and side skirts back on.

The stock front bumper is just temp for now. even though its not exactly what I have in mind for it at the moment but this will do for now.

In the mean time, have been thinking about a different paint job to most of R33's and after a bit of looking around, I think I have found something to consider ... maybe not too greenish but I should have some more progress in the coming days............

Thanks guys .. Its defiantly starting to look better the more I think about it. The idea is to have something simple and a little different at the same time.

I am going to prep and respray it myself with the help of my brother so give it a couple of days before the next updates.

In the mean time, check out its cousin in the U.K

Started the prepping work on the car which is the slowest and most boring of all DIY's but managed to spray the car and bumpers and side skirts with the custom matt green exclusive paint code

I know its not the best looking paint job at the moment but should look heaps better once polished. Then again, for $300 I cant really complain :)

Will hopefully get a the whole car done and bolt up the parts tomorrow.

Got most of the kit bolted on. Still needs some final touches to get the final product.

Color is what I thought of at the start but the bonnet has a few shades of darker paint

Will also respray the Vspec GTR bonnet that I have just to make it all match.

Thanks for the nice words .

I actually didn't end up buying the GTR guards at the end. Even though I got a mint deal on them ($100 for both sides). Reason was that I needed GTR head lights to make them all fit because the gtst head lights don't line up with the guards ??

However, the front bumper is something rare from a 40th anniversary GTR.

I got some more pics that I will post up later. The car needs a good buff to finish off the respray so its looking a bit ruff right now.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got the whole car back together for now. I think this is pretty much it exterior wise as I would like to keep it looking tidy. The GTR bumper is sitting really nice and in my opinion, it goes quite well with the impul side skirts and rear bar. So the URAS kit will be up for sale.

As far as the bonnet goes, I didn't think it was going to come out this dark but I also have a Vspec GTR bonnet that I will be putting on later down the track.

The car has been sitting in the driveway for the past 2 weeks or so and it's getting dusty. Still haven't had the chance to buff it after the respray but hopefully it will happen in a week time.

Now that the exterior work is done .. Turbo, wastegate, fuel pump, boost controller, tune are next :)

    • If you are fine with China turbos, Maxpeedingrods makes a bolt on turbo. Ive had mine for two summers now and it seems to be holding up ok.
    • Howdy all Im in a little predicament and wondering what everyone’s thoughts are? I’ve had my long block rebuilt and am in the market for a turbo due to my old one having metal shavings from crank bearings (cause of rebuild) go throughout the turbos oil lines and there wheel has a little play. I’m not really aiming for any power, just trying to keep it as oem as possible, but I can’t find a turbo that’s built for the stock ecu or find something that would be a standard replacement. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions
    • How's everyone going? Just a shout-out introducing myself. I'm James, I live on the north side of Brisbane. I bought an R33 that had been left to rot in someone's front yard for 14 years. Apparently, it has immobiliser/fuel issues. Long story short, it's suffering from a seized engine, plus whatever else turns up once it runs. The car is pretty good considering it sat for so long. It pretty much died after being imported. It has a bunch of Jap parts and a full Top Secret body kit. It's painted Fiat Turchese Festival, or aqua blue if you're not French. Another project to throw money at!
    • So the clockspring is responsible for the indicators cancelling on their own? I thought that was the function of that white thing in the center (any idea what it's called?)
    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
