if i can get more safely with that size turbo then awesome :) cause i dont want too much lag.....

and i like the sound with cams

you know, alot of the cam sound is from the tune, with mild cams its almost undetectable, but with the mixtures changed at idle you can get the fat cam sound or even without cams get the sound.

thats interesting! does it affect power or fuel safety of the engine?

i dont think so, its just the mixture on idle, obviously you need an aftermarket computer for that

with mine, as soon as the mixture was leaned a touch it would give the rough cam idle, but i prefer it with a smooth idle and odd lump to it.

Mark with your cams and turbo you should be making a bucket load more power than you are...why have it if your not going to use it.. most blokes with a basic hiflow setup would give you a run for your money any day...cams are not really needed in Rb25s unless your pushing for big numbers the stock cams are good to 350kw sometimes more...

yeah well with a forged engine im sure the gtx would make upto 380rwkw, i think if you run a gt30 or larger a set of cams doesnt hurt, it makes 320kw on 16psi which is nice and safe, i dont want to be doing a rebuild anytime soon, and yes they'd give me a run for my money cause they'd have more traction for sure, maybe in third id hose them off :)

You don't need a forged engine either....just a tuner willing to push the envelope. :P

haha , you go first then.. ill watch from outside the dyno room incase a pistons decides to depart ...lol

my turbo (actually my whole setup) isn't big enough, its pretty much close to maxed out as is....

but thats why i chose it cause it suits my power target...all i'm saying is why have it if you dont need it or not going to utilize it..

I'm not knocking your setup its killer, im just saying i want to see you turn the volume up..

It could be good for 400kw or you miay as well have got a smaller turbo ;)

yeah your 100% right, if i were doing it again id of just gone gt3076 maybe with a 0.63 rear even with E85 and hoped to max out at 300ish

went gtx cause it sounded like a good thing, 10%more flow etc but its actually suited for a forged motor really, but also down the track i would like to attempt a rb30/25 or maybe just a forged rb25 , so then the boost will be wound up to 25psi.. i like to have alot of room for more power down the track and really its not bad, 20psi at 4000rpm shes on par. ;)

we pushed mine to 21psi but nothing exciting happened...extra 10kws or something...have you tuned past 16psi at all, and is that on e85 ??

no havnt gone past 16psi at redline and yeah E85, it was responding very well to boost and timing advance, each psi was like 10kw or more and knock levels very low, the fuel makes massive difference went from 280 to 320kw with no more boost needed.

So did the tuner decide 320kw was the safe limit or did something else hold you back?

well i asked him what he thought was a good safe limit and he said 1.4bar is what he'd take it upto on E85, i was only looking for 300kw so when it hit 320kw first run i thought, wow i think ill leave it there in case somthing goes pop... it must of cost about 5k atleast upto that point and dont wanna spend more if anything goes wrong..

Quite alot of people say running over 300kw's is a gamble so i didnt want to push it incase it went bang, and i love how it sounds and drives as it is..

sorry daniel , dont mean to take over your thread.. :/

Mission accomplished then!! Still would be cool to just do a few dyno runs at 20+ psi to see what its fully capable of.

+1 ....and I'm intrigued to know why tuner didnt try it...if it was responding so well why give up on it....we all know an RB can push further, even if you just did it for tuning then cut it back....it also gives you a safety margin should you hit any overboosting issues down the track..I'd say 300 is a gamble but you're pretty safe on the dyno, its the varying conditions it sees in everyday life that would cause issues...

you could be restricted by that vegan clutch though....should of gone carbotic...

im intrigued now too.. lol well it was with a 250kw rated clutch, ive no doubt it would of seen atleast 350kw, if you watch the dyno video you can see it backs off after 5000rpm so it had heaps left, i will eventually build a bottem end up and go back for 350kw plus its still a goal...

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
