Just coming from experience that you try to keep the motor power levels at a reasonable level and if you can, you might even initially keep the motor stock. Once you start to start pulling them apart you start to have more issues.

A 250rwkw light weight silvia with fantastic suspension and chassis set up will be a lot quicker then most think and you will be able to keep going around and around all day everyday and also pass most other cars on the track.

Even more important considering the distance you have to travel as no doubt you will try and get a couple of days in at a time, you can do local hill climb events etc if you have them though.

I can always build a good engine and turn the boost down that is no problem, I have sold all my standard engine parts the only thing I have at the moment is the block, which is ready to be sleeved. I'm in the market for a P12 head which i will purchase from Nissan Japan at some stage. 250rwkw will not be enough for me, after driving my 800HP + R32 GTR, but as with any new car i will start off with small power and slowly wind the power up until I reach the sweet spot. The wider the tyres i run the more power I can lay down. I may even purchase a set of 12.5" rims as my 11.5" were for my +50mm Guards, I am now running +70mm guards. More measurements need to be taken.

Any chance you can weigh those wheels? Thinking of going a similar way.

Just weigh those rims results are:

18 x 9.5 " R Disk = 10.6kg

18 x 11.5" O Disk = 11.2kg

My scales are not 100% accurate either. Not to bad i guess.

SR20VET Idea has been scraped and sold, making up my mind on the following VQ37VHR Twin Turbo. I have one available to me pretty cheap at the moment and need to make up my mind on it quickly.

Pro's

- Bigger Capacity

- Way More Torque

- Less stress on engine to make the 600-700HP figure i'm after.

- Very Light engine not much heavier than SR20

- Lower centre of gravity.

Con's

- Not a great deal of After market Parts support.

- VVEL Head's are difficult to work with

- Open Deck block cannot handle high boost

- A shit load of custom work to be done.

Thoughts :whistling:

why not use a VQ35 non HR? They seem to have much more after market support, and not many people seem to like the HR's for modifying.

Where would you put the turbo's? putting them infront of the engine (like most people) would be less than ideal for weight distro.

I'm not a fan of SR tractor engines, VQ is the go.

Was gonna low mount the turbo's with the GTM Cast Manifolds for better weight distribution. GTM have managed over 600rwhp on stock bottom end on just over 9psi of boost which is pretty impressive, but I was gonna put forged rods and pistons in just to be safe.

From what i've read the weak point of a VQ is the valve train, they start dropping valves at 7500+. But at the end of the day it's not a big job or huge expense to upgrade the valve springs.

It has been awhile since I've posted in here. Over the last 7 months I decided to sell everything off this car, the only thing left is the shell and rear subframe. I have always wanted to start another project car but most of my time has gone into either my new FJ Cruiser or the R32 Drag car, so I have had no time to anything else. But over the last few months have been working out a little list of possible combinations and setups.

The best and most exciting combination which I think will be fun to drive and most probably will kill me is this.

Engine: 5.7L LS1 V8 Twin Turbo, Dry Sump approx. power 1000-1200+HP

Fuel: E85

Transmission: Tremec T56 6 Speed with PPG Dogbox and Ignition Cut System (same as my GTR Drag Car)

Diff: 9 inch

Suspension: Front - Standard Silvia Setup. Rear - 4 Link Setup Drag.

Bodykit: Rocket Bunny/Ben Sopora Widebody

Wheels: Work Miester S1 3 piece 18x14 or 15" Don't know yet.

Brakes: Strange Engineering Carbon Brakes (Same as the GTR Drag Car).

Chassis: 3/4 Tube Chassis with Carbon Fibre Rear Tubs and Floor/Tunnel, same as Prostock Drag Car

Weight goal: 1100 - 1200 KG want power to weight to be 1:1 ratio.

May get it dodgy rego for it and only take it to special events, main use will be powercruise's, car shows and drags. Should run low 8's high 7's.

This is the cheapest engine and drivetrain package out of all the others I have come up with. Japanese Engines are good, but cost a shit load of money to get reliable mega horsepower, which I've had plenty of experience with the GTR Drag Car costing mega dollars to maintain and perfect. Still getting quotes and ideas, designing what can be done to a 180SX.
