Hey guys does anyone know how we take out the center brake light for the coupe? Mine also seems to work on occasions which is weird, probably a loose cable.

I think we just pull it up and out from what i have read and done before, but this seems to be stuck for some reason.

Also is there anyway to access the rear deck or do we have to strip off both panels and the rear seat?

Hi Marshan,

If i recall correctly you push the light forward with your hands and you should feel it pop loose. You can then lift it out and unplug from the harness. No need to remove any panels. To reinstall put in the forward position and then pull back until it clicks into place.

Mine intermittenly worked for a few months before i just bought a new one and swapped it over. Not a problem since.

Good luck!

I think mine's stuck doesn't come out no matter what i do. I think i may need to take out the rear deck just to see what's going on....i hate how just to get to that we have to strip off the interior side panels, belt and the rear seat and same as Sean being 6'1" i hate working in the back of our car lol.

Yep lol.. i got my car tinted through work on Wednesday and the tinter is only a little bit shorter than me and you should have seen how uncomfortable he was trying to apply the tint on the back window.. he still thinks it's harder to tint an FT86 than a V35 though haha.

The front bit of the brake light (closest to the front of the car) has 2 clips that hold it down. I fold down the back seat, then use a large flat screwdriver to push the area of each clip towards the rear of the car, and lift up. Once both clips are released the whole assembly slides forward and out.

The pic below shows the assembly removed & turned upside down. The 2 clips closest to the camera are the ones you need to push back & up, the other 4 plastic tabs then come undone when you slide the assembly forwards.

Thanks guys, will try that. If no luck then i guess i'll have to take off the interior side panels and strip out the rear seats to get the deck off and have a look...

Also yeah i've been in my mates BRZ the rear is terrible to work in as well.

There are wide reports of these lights being very poor.

There was even talk of a class action because so many were failing on G35's.

Often however, it is due to the connection in the boot becoming corroded. So maybe track that down first and check it's got a good contact. Will be a hell of a lot easier ;-)
