thrust bearing is located at the back of the engine where the flywheel bolts to.. the input shaft out of the gearbox goes into this... the throwout bearing is a part of your clutch thing. not sure how it works but it push's or pulls your clutch plate in/out to disengauge your clutch... something like that

On a more mechanical and less car-orientated note, a thrust bearing is the same as a standard bearing or radial bearing, except withstands axial force. That is a force pushing towards it along its axis rather than down on top of it radially.

See uni does come in handy sometimes.
