I have always found Coz's shipping prices quite good.. compared to somewhere like courtesy Nissan, they are an absolute bargain... I have never ordered anything large or heavy though

Yes he does combine shipping, i got everything at $575 shipping i don't know how it's so cheap but he must have ties with USPS or something to do it that cheap. Either way, i'm not complaining he's done me a pretty damn good deal

OK - thought i'd post back here my results after getting the new CD009 gearbox, southbend clutch & flywheel installed.

The bloke that was doing it for me had everything installed by 5:30, (gave him the car at 9am) then as he went to adjust the clutch found a problem. The pivot ball was the wrong size. The standard pivot ball from my 03 is short. The pivot balls from the 04-07 is a long version and it WILL NOT allow you to adjust the clutch correctly. The gearbox had to come out AGAIN to change the pivot ball back to the original one.

Now for the positives - the CD009 gearbox feels amazing paired with Amsoil gear oil. Shifts are very smooth and easy to engage, compared to my old beat to shit gearbox. It was funny when i originally bought the car i was told it had a HD twin plate Exedy clutch, i took his word because i noticed it was quite heavy and 12 months ago i didn't know nearly as much as i do know about cars and parts... Turns out it was just a single plate HD exedy clutch and also a exedy flywheel.

I have encountered a slight problem when driving it home last night and this morning to work. The clutch is making a noticeable rubbing or grinding sound when i am accelerating and changing gears. The same noise is barely noticeable when the car is at idle with the clutch in, i don't beleive it's the flywheel because that makes a different sort of chatter which i can also hear when i accelerate from a stop. But the aftermarket Southbend flywheel is steel and it actually seems to make less chatter than the standard exedy flywheel that was in it which is good.

Does anyone have an idea on what this noise would be? I am taking the car back to the installer in a couple of hours so he can diagnose it but thought i'd ask the question.

It should be the clutch bedding in, ask the dude, but he should have told you how to drive it for a thousand km or so. You know, no excessive slipping, no side stepping etc.

Yea ok cool thanks Alex, for sure i have every intention of taking care of the new parts. I had the idea it might be air in the lines, there has been SS clutch lines installed too. Just sounds a little squishy but it doesn't feel spongy at all it's nice and smooth when i engage.

Ok so i went back to the shop and got the bloke to check it out for me, he had a drive and noticed it too. It's sort of a rubbing sound when the clutch is engaged and accelerating, he thinks that it's because the Southbend clutch is a mix of copper. If you press the clutch in for longer than about 3 seconds the noise stops. Been doing research on g35driver.com about the Southbend clutch can't seem to find a great deal of information but i'll keep looking. I'll also get back in touch with Coz from ConceptZ who sold the box and clutch to me and see if he knows.

Anyone have an input about the copper mix southbend clutch gurgle sound when engaged? I contacted Coz again from CZP and he said to drive it 500 miles then get back in contact with him but other than that he has never heard of this sound with the southbend clutch and flywheel setup. Is it possible the bleeding of the clutch fluid was done incorrectly? i got brand new fluid in there. Cheers

If the bleeding was bad you would get a bad pedal feel, and it wouldn't fully disengage. I've driven a nismo single coppermix, and it does make noises, as people with the nismo twin have also described. Coz is right, drive it for a while and your figure what's normal and what's abnormal. Don't expect it to be a stock one, it's uprated.

do the noises sort of match up to the sounds that you heard from the nismo clutch? Yeah certainly, i do realise it's aftermarket and it will be different the only thing that's odd is that Coz has mentioned he's never heard of it happening with the setup or else i'd just be cool with it and get used to it. I just hope it's not a faulty clutch, that would be a PITA

I've never heard a southbend. To be honest, I haven't heard enough clutches to know confidently if it would be normal.

But this is what I'd do. Continue to bed it in for the 500 miles. Then gradually lean on it more and more until you give it heaps. If it survives, it will be fine. Stop worrying and get a louder exhaust.

Out of curiousity, have you driven a lot of cars with upgraded clutches? The first few times when they're bedding in, it seems weird and unnatural. After that, it's all good. Maybe the southbend is a noisier clutch and that's what you're hearing?

Yeah i hadn't either before i bought it but i was highly repped by the guys in the states, and being built by Exedy it's meant to be quite good quality. Exhaust is next on my list, don't worry! haha.

I drive a shit load of different cars all the time in my work but never really ones with upgraded clutches. I've driven my mates Evo 6 before which is very stiff but that's about it. I'm hoping this is the case, i can't notice the sound when i've got music on so i think i'll just let it run in for about 1000km and forget about it unless i read something on the net about this sound and go from there.

I wouldn't forget about it. I would keep an eye on it, but it does sound like it's bedding in.

Coz emailed me back- He said that the organic Southbend clutch is very similar to OEM and should not make any different noises. He thinks that it's something to do with installation because as i said before he's never heard of this issue with the Southbend setup. The guy that fitted it all for me is out at work for 5 days i think so i'm not sure if i should wait 500km+ to see if it goes or take it straight back to him and get him to check how it's all setup.
