I'm not sure, I have only recently purchased the car. And it hasn't been changed. I would have thought that oil viscosity and quality wouldnt actually stop it from going into gear tho. Could it be a slave cylinder problem ?

It can and it does. When R33 box first went into my car, we could not select any geras at all with the engine running (and clutch properly set up). Change to Redline Lightweight Shockproof, and it started selecting gears. Fast forward 5-6000 km of driving and it is a much better box all around. You would be surprised by what the right* oil can do for you.

*right being fit for the purpose or problem at hand.

Easily could be. Or failing master. I have had to replace both on my car over the years.

If its failing master or slave, you'll probably notice the clutch take up point is near the floor.

Anyways its always a good idea to change all the fluids when you buy a second hand car. For the gearbox get a full synth oil of the right viscosity and you wont need to change it again for the life of the car (it should be good for 300,000+ kms).
