Clutch Grinding

Ok, so I was giving the car a bit of abuse tonight then all of a sudden the clutch stopped working and I couldn't get into any gear. After about 10 minutes of driving the clutch starting working again, but whenever i use it there is grinding noise when it's on the friction point. No grinding noise when the pedal is fully in or out. Also the friction point is twice as big now. Clutch is a Exedy 5 puk.

Pull the gearbox out and check it

The gearbox is going to have to come out

So maybe if it's an old clutch you can upgrade at the same time to save costs

sounds like you may have burnt the plates on the clutch but you will need to take the box out anyway and i would suggest replacing all fluid and you may have boiled it...

giving the info you have provided its hard to say could be more issues with the box for all we know but it depends on what you mean by "ABIT OF ABUSE"

From a standstill I reved up car and droped the clutch in 2nd with my foot on the brake, quickly changed to 3rd, sat there for 3 seconds and peeled out up the road. When the tyres gripped I tried to change to 4th and thats when this started to happen. The clutch doesn't slip.

Yeah weird sound there

If it made it while just idling then it would be the thrust but that noise is just as it grabs.

Dropping it in 2nd puts a shit load of pressure on everything so I would suggest not doing that again dude. Only the hardcore drag racers with really quality clutches and lots of power do it

Still as I said in the end your going to have to take the gearbox out and inspect. It's to hard to diagnose over the Internet. I had trouble with my clutch and I had to bite the bullet and pull it out.

I think the clutch welded itself to the flywheel. On the drive home I must of broke it free and the grinding noise might be from parts of clutch still welded to the flywheel.

It's welded it's self. You'll find little bits of brass imbedded in the flywheel.

Any brass button clutch that slips bad enough to create massive heat will try to weld it's self to the flywheel.

This side faces the pressure plate right? Don't see how it would spin if I put it on the other way.

No gasket goo on the front cover gasket?

What size are the nut that go on here? Turns out my car never came with them lol.

That is the face that contacts the pressure plate.

I'm pretty sure the nuts that go there are M8 x 1.25mm.

The cover the input shaft seal sits in.

I'm guessing you pulled it off to check the bearing?

Just put a very thin smear just to be sure. That is if the gasket is still in good condition. If it has any tears or is a bit rough get a new one, there's nothing worse than putting it all back together to find it has a leak.

Lol i do that instead i dump it in 4th standing still.
