Sorry for being a smartarse (not) but those suspension rules could easily be tightened up eg by making it mandatory to use stock suspension points and no others. Quite easily done, people who write these rules are not very cluey sometimes..

If the MSPEED Gtr makes it.... WOW!

Why the Fck are ppl trying to prove that this car is a Open contender? It's Australia's fastest BNR chassis! Regardless of class, as half the open cars are quicker then pro anyway...It's the only thing that is remotely close to giving the EMOs and S-chassis's a run for there money.

It's not as quick yet, but if I was in a position to be invited as a PRO car and be recognized as a privateer doing it... Bring it on! Under Suzuki status :) Fck Open class

(what/whom are CNJ motorsport relative to the development of both cars? Always thought he owned it)

sorry...but no. If I was in that budget range I would have an AMG supertaxi and do 20 national rounds per year, or buy a carbon aston martin+ a tarmac rally R35 and do a varied range of events

Or maybe I would just invest the cash in beer and hookers.

Uncle Duncan...I think you are missing the point. If you have 1 million to sink into something then I am guessing you invest plenty of other cash in beer, coke and hookers. Have tarmac rally cars, a Carrera Cup car. Do whatever the hell you want most of the time that you are not stressing and busting your ass doing what got you the cash to blow in the first place.

What I cant excuse is wanting an R35! I thought you were better then that

It's a WTAC discussion thread, not proving anything, just having an interesting discussion around Marlins points & interpretations of rules is all?

That WTAC suspension rule must be last years, because the current rules say suspension is free in open class.

10. SUSPENSION

Open:

i. Suspension is free.

So yes the suspension is free... but...

10. SUSPENSION

c. Original mounting points may be reinforced and altered in design but not in location

(except Pro).

Would suggest that you can put any sort of suspension in, long as the Orig point is there.

Now as page 4 said - There are ways to read into that, give how open to interpretation it is... Probably update 1.3 coming soon to say you actually need to use the point rather than just have it there

I didn't read the earlier part, but it doesn't matter because when you say something is free, you remove any restrictions on it. If they want Open cars to use original suspension mounting points, they fail at rule writing, which takes us back to my first post in this thread:

...they are still really crap at writing rules...

I thought I made it clear enough in my original post re the Advan BNR34 that this was MY thought process, and wasn't at all trying to "prove" the car is anything? I know Mark wouldn't even WANT to go back to Open Class, not a chance in hell would he do that. I was merely putting it up for SAU discussion.

And CNJ are the guys who dyno tune the cars, not owners.

WTAC regs seem fickle and designed for a manufactured outcome. There are plenty of other time attack / time trial events which have been around for years before and will be after, with a long history of well defined and reasoanbly fair regs. Don't become enamoured by the hype, just vote with your feet.

The regs for the qld time attack series seem pretty good, maybe use those?

+1

And I reckon it's because they have been built on a sensible, not commercially driven basis, by people who know these sorts of cars.

Paul runs a good format for the qld time attack setup with any changes being of a minor nature to fine tune existing or accomodate new ideas.

The problem I see with wta is motivated by money. I have no objection to the organisers making squillions from their investment but in making rule changes that allow existing cars to run under the new regs at the exclusion if cars being currently built is a recipe for a shit storm.

  • 2 weeks later...

So Voltex Type-5 wing's are back in club and you can run a 600HP RB30 in your R32 GTST.

What you really want it a 600HP turbo S2000 running 295's all around. Light, short wheels base, wide track and massive power.

Doing time attack and then flying to melbs saturday night to go to Phillip island the next day.

Who among us is man enough for this ?

Where should we stay in melbourne ?

After seeing what you posted on facebook I am definitely not ma....gay enough to join you. :action-smiley-069:

What the lightest factory weight of a r32 gtr? Is it 1400kg for the N1 or is there a lighter version produced?

I am trying to keep within the max of 20% reduction rule. I dont think I can get it but it will be good to know the actual target.

BTW what is the allowed weight for the Evo then? Obviously no one will use the Evo X since that is a baby whale when it comes to weight.

Also who else will be fighting for the Nissan badge? There seems to be some crazily fast Evo and Subies in the built also. It's going to be an interesting year.

The s2k is a bit deceiving and you will be surprised that is actually not the case. The s2000 is 1250kg from factory and I think that is dry weight. The track is not that wide either. Getting 600hp out of the f20c is easy but putting that power down will requires a lot of aero work. The only advantage is the suspension geometry is pretty good from stock but to compete at pro level it will be cheaper to build an evo or a nissan. At supersprint level then the gearbox and rear diff may not cope with significant power increase....I am not sure if the rule will allows use of other gearbox.

100kg lighter than a GTST and has 300kg on a GTR.

with the introduction of those weight limits, a Datsun 1200, 120Y or similar featherweight 70's POS could be a good thing. A 1200 weighs 690kg standard - 20% = 552kg minimum weight in Pro... Any engine you want, any driveline, any suspension you can dream up...

    • What HVAC actuator is under the steering wheel? Do you mean on the RHS of the centre console, immediately to the left of your shin? If so, then yes, it is probably that one, because that is the mode door actuator, and from what I know, it's still a pain in the arse to replace. I don't know about whole dash out, but you certainly have to rip into the centre console section. I don't know if it's covered in the workshop manual, as I haven't spent much time looking at those parts of it. (and by "the workshop manual, I mean the R32 GTR one, which is the most comprehensive one we have, and it should be similar enough between that and later cars to serve as a guide).

    • No I got mine from a friend that had fabricated one … but I had to fit it to my setup which was a hks turbo setup. His was a Garrett -7. So one of my turbos was not a flange for one side … then I had a leak in the welds I had to find a weld shut … in the end the setup was decent priced but I spent a lot to get it fitted. A couple companies I checked would make it but you’re talking 7-9k aud with titanium. No joke mine was 6-7k even second hand after I had to fit it in Hong Kong … labour is expensive here.
    • I'd just like to restate that I don't think anyone here is actually hating I recently sold a car part to a guy who was building a forged auto R34, with MV stall and aiming at ~450kw. I told him that I'm him, from the future and to stop after it explodes once. I told him I knew he won't listen the first time, and that's fine. But if my predictions do come true - Change direction faster than I did. I also said it's probably no coincidence that the dyno plot of a reliable turbo engine starts to look a lot like a N/A motor. :p
