Reckon you could get 20% weight out of something that is already bare bones at 690kg? Always going to be limited by the chassis without doing massive work on it. Might as well be a sports sedan.

You'd never make minimum weight, but at least you aren't going to be restricted by that rule... The Japs get the TSCup version of the later, bigger, heavier B310 Sunny down to 670kg racing weight with FRP or carbon panels, bumpers and acrylic windows, And that starts life at something over 850kg. Still with no obvious fat on its bones. Pro allows you to cut out the boot floor and stuff as well.

As for the other point, what Pro Class car doesn't need massive work on its chassis? Except perhaps Cyber Evo... But guess what the secret to their speed was... aside from the aero and good driver that all the contenders had.

You can make good power from the original A12 or bigger A14-A15 with a turbo. They're a tough little unit, with plenty of aftermarket support. And one man can lift a complete engine! They're super compact too - get that 2" behind the firewall and V-mount the rad/intercooler as far back as possible.

You'd stay light with driveline and be prepared to break a few bits occassionally, rather than over-engineer it.

MX5 suspension could be the way to go - it works and its light. Do the NZ racecar trick of dropping the body down over the floorpan - sort of like a channelled rod, to get down to the 50mm permitted ride height.

As Roy says 400bhp and 700kg is not beyond the realms of possibility. And you'd have the smallest frontal area of any competitor other than a Lotus. And would be one of the cheapest Pro cars to build. So it wouldn't matter so much when they change all the rules again the followig year! lol

  • 1 month later...

Car is in the process of getting put back together. Hopefully be out next month to iron out all the bugs ;)

Have you done EC before on street radials? I remember getting down to 44s in my 33 with 350kw a couple of years ago... hope you can represent so its not a EVO fest!

I have, but no confirmation yet.

Also wanting to get into open, but dont know if they'll want a dirty 31 in their event :)

Who has expessed their interest and in what class? Anyone receive confirmation yet?.....hoping to represent in open!

I'm sitting this one out. Last year broke my 'modest' budget and this year I am focusing on other things. Still hoping to get out to a few club events and SAU nats later in the year. The to-do list is growing with the ideas I have for the car but they'll have to wait till next year.

I'll still be there but as a spectator this time. I'll come say hi Steve.

Haha!

What's the latest on big red?

Don't think it'll make an appearance this year. Adam has just begun some improved production racing in his gay Evo.

Already did last year :P

I'll be looking to be much faster than last year.

Got my confirmation yesterday

Shame that some of the season campaigners cant make it....

However, there seems to be some insane builds coming through in the motorsports section

3 x R32 GTRS that I've been getting excited about...

Ex BSM (John I think)

BC Auotmotive (Steve is it?)

Ex Willal (Dahn?)

Haven't met you lads in person but i look forward to it....

glad we can keep the EVO's honest

    • It was roughly 3.5 hours.    car went in around 11:00 and I was done around 2:30 He did the initial runs, install the BC and then Nistune install and tune.  The best part was sitting in the lobby and hearing the skyline on full throttle at the dyno 😂😂
    • Glad it all went smooth. How long did the tuning process take?
    • Yeah that was kind of the same feedback my tuner gave me.  the boost tee is until I can sort out my plan for the electronic boost controller and what I’d get, where I’d mount the dash etc.  I’m happy with this until I can figure it out. Not a big fan of the A-pillar gauges. I’d like to get a clean install of the boost gauge - something digital like GFB.  Something like that might fit neatly where the ashtray is and look clean. I feel like replacing the OEM triple gauge is a bit extreme for a weekender like my skyline. And it’s not making crazy power to need all the additional sensors/gauges.
    • I'm about to swap my box to Tremec T56 Magnum F & initially thinking of re-using my DCS twin plate (can get it re centred for the bigger spline) but it's been called out the box will be noisy (rattle) as the clutch is unsprung.  So I'm doing as much research as possible. I'm not so worried about holding the power as I'll go the track version which on paper will hold the maybe 1000hp I make. It's the longevity I worry about. DCS told me they don't use a sprung centre as it's just something that can break. The uni clutch has a very complicated sprung centre. Any one had or heard about any issues with it failing? Thanks in advance.
    • Auto is at least 10% (from my real, actual experience with different torque converters and manual on the same setup) ~185rwkw at 11.6psi (peak!) is entirely what one would expect without a FMIC or anything else on the intake, it does bleed off towards the higher RPM so it's what, 9psi there? Note: There is nothing that can be done about this with a manual boost tee. If you want to hold it steady and gain more top end, well - You will need electronic boost control.....
