ah noooooooew.

We ran out of fuel!!! Ended up with a 1.04.9. Had a low 1.04 in it, but wasn't to be.

Huge challenge even to make the event. The old man and my brother put in a big effort.

In the weekends leading up to it we dropped a heap of weight, did heaps of maintenance to suspension bits, changed the diff (mine is broken, no time to fix), borrowing brake pads on Monday night (i was working in sydney tues-fri) and in the days before get a wheel alignment and new tyres (on Friday).

At a track I'd been too once before, with tyres I'd never run before (z222 285/35), with no ABS (borrowed diff was a non ABS unit) we ended up 4th in Club, so very close to 3rd.

Great result and congrats buddy especially with all the challenges . What's your car weighing in at now?

"Alternative materials are permitted for the Front Bar, Bonnet, Side Skirts, Rear Bar and Boot provided they follow the same shape as the original part.

Alternative materials are permitted for front and rear flares.

Localised modifications of OEM fenders to allow fitment of the control tyre.

OEM fenders must be of original material however flare extensions are permitted to cover control tyre.

The top 1/3 of the tyre must not protrude outside the guard/flare when the wheels are facing forwards.

The remainder of the vehicle body must remain as original from the manufacturer. (no wide body kits)"

Bolt on flares

In Pro class they changed the following for chassis

  2. Original floor pan and frame rails must be retained from the firewall to the forward most point of the rear wheel arch. Allowance for removal material for fitment of fuel or fluid tanks and associated fittings is permitted

So you have to retain the floor plan and rails except you don't....... I heard that this one was coming as one of the top Australian Teams that was on the podium last year had actually had cut the entire middle of the car out for the fuel cell and oil tanks.

Short notice, is this affecting you guys at all? I need to re read them again... Especially with the new interpretations.

Alternative materials are permitted however all bodies must follow the same shape and retain the original look and style of the vehicle. Does following the same shape mean keeping the original side skirts? Keeping the original front bar?

Front and rear bars may be modified to incorporate aero design. Front bar may not extend further than 150mm forward and rear bar no further than 100mm rearward than the vehicles bodywork. Interesting

Yes those early Evo were very light.

I think they quoted the wrong minimum weight for the R32 GTR. Nissan produced a number of N1 car with a curb weight of around 1400kg. Let me try to dig out some more info

Hey dan, this is correct but in the new rules state that the car must have been produced at least 500 units to comply, what do you think your car will weigh?

That's the one.

I'm extremely disappointed, but at the same understand why they have had to do it. If the vast majority of the field enter with cars that are not compliant to the rules, then the class either folds or the rules change to allow those cars to run.

It's stuffed me around to the tune of $3k in wheels (as I wanted to run 10.5 + 15 but wouldn't fit under the guards so bought wheels that could and in doing so decreased the chance of getting a 295 on there), if I was an Evo driver I'd probably have more of a say.

Basically to stay competitive I need to modify the guards now.

It's funny how the magical "500" number pop up. If it's good enough for the Japanese to accept the N1 for racing why isn't it good enough for time attack event :(

I suspect those Evo weight are not quite the mass produced version either. I suspect some bias here.

We will make it as low as possible and then add weight if we are under. Only WTAC requires minimum weight, the other events don't so I don't just build the car for that weight. It's not easy to get the GTR to below that any how but just in case. Not nice to see some unfairness of this magical 500 number. Does anyone know of any real reason for the "500"?

    • How f**ked am i? what would happen if i leave the magnet inside there? 
    • I'll update you guys when i get home from work, im going to try to fish it out.  I just realized that i can't even drop the oil pan. The whole front diff and axles are connected to the oil pan... is it even possible to drop the oil pan without taking out the motor?  
    • So recently at the track had experienced a loss of throttle after a period of WOT after installing the emtron ecu, recently did some logging to troubleshoot the issue and found the ECU was cutting due to a low oil pressure issue. Going over the log can see that while accelerating at 4k rpm will see 100 PSI of pressure and holding steady at that level until getting off the throttle which then after can see as low as 25 PSI at 3-4k rpm and will recover back to a normal level after that.   Wondering if anyone has an idea what could be the cause as it just feels abit strange and i dont feel like it could be a sensor issues just due to it clearly sitting at a good pressure until off throttle, in the attached can see a 3rd and 4th gear pull but can even perform great through 3 and 4 gears of WOT but still once off throttle and getting back on it will see pressure drop.
    • There are a few different ways of doing it. I'm currently running two 1000cc pre-TB nozzles and PWM the pump for control. I'll be moving over to a constant pressure system and direct port. I'll run the pump off a regular relay, have it cycle on roughly 5psi before I start injecting to build pressure and then PWM a WMI solenoid (It's basically an injector that can take a lot of pressure and not corrode with water and meth.) The solenoid feeds the 6 direct port ~200cc nozzles. I'll also keep one ~250cc pre-TB nozzle to help keep IAT's in check.  Safety will be a little different as well. I used to use a pressure switch but will be moving over to a pressure sensor between my solenoid and nozzles. I'll trigger my solenoid and if I don't see specific pressure within a specific timeframe (e.g 100psi within a second, 175psi within 2 seconds), I kill it and revert back to non WMI maps the same way I did it before with 4D in Haltech. I was just figuring out the timers in my ecu last night. They made that a little more complicated than I would have liked... I wish Haltech offered a larger set of logic/math functions like other ecu's do. I can't do very much with just AND's and OR's.  I've been asked to do fuel/ignition mapping on a medium bore engine at work in May (192L V16). Being the only programmer in my region and having went and opened my mouth about knowing the ins and outs of fuel/ignition mapping, I have now been deemed an expert. Fun fun. The entirety of the logic and algorithms are programmed in C on a PLC. As I spend more time figuring it all out, I like what I see and eventually I may consider doing the same as a pet project to replace my ecu.   
    • This would be interesting, would you feed it via a 2nd row of injectors? Or just usual WMI nozzles?
