Does anyone think that the Jap's can bring a car to beat Tilton,Nemo, and MCA next year?

I love how Under Suzuki builds his car with such a limited budget (MCA too for that matter) and does so well with it, but even he has said that there is about five years worth of development left in his car at the rate that he can afford to do it

So with Voltex being one of the leading players with aero, and being Japanese.......surely someone over there wants to beat the Aussies (and Kiwi ;-) ) at their game!?!?

Hi everyone, this is an in car video of a very experienced gun driver, John Boston, from Trackschool, driving one of our customers R32 GTR at WTAC last weekend. This is a great example of how you should drive if you ever go to the track, whether if its a super sprint track day or especially if its in a big event like WTAC. It shows common sense courtesy which doesn't appear to be that common in real life, which is a shame, constantly looking in his mirrors, making sure he doesn't get in the way of a car on a hot lap. He then gets in the groove and positions himself to try and get a clear lap for himself only to be held up on the second last turn by a car that did not appear to be looking in his mirrors and not on a hot lap either. Furthermore on the second lap he was further held up by cars seemingly doing their own thing driving slow on the race line, so he pulls out of the lap. Keep in mind, it's not only a safety issue; some people spend a lot of money and time to prep their car to try and get a good lap in and makes it so hard when others are getting in the way.

This should be a training video for next years WTAC and any other future track days and events.

Yes unfortunately John was in the slower group, which was most of the problem.

Assuming demand is high, maybe the organisers should rule out those with slow cars, piloted by drivers with very little experience, for the benefit and safety of all??

It's not the same thing at all. Yes Suzuki got in the way, but the Z was over 15sec A LAP slower than Boz in the GTR. It shouldn't have been there.

John also shouldn't have been put in the slower group! NFI what the organisers where thinking there.

The event sells out in a matter of minutes - they can afford to be selective. It'is not an event for complete noobs. People pay good money to get in to see the fastest cars around...

Does anyone know what happened to mark berrys cars this year?

Berry's cars are sitting in the shed untouched from the year before he said, awesome guy that helped us at this years event and many others. Genuine top bloke. He said he will be back for next years event.

I remember the days where if ur car was featured in hpi or fast fours it couldn't be in the other. Now they are both owned by the same company it is a complete joke. The latest copies feature the exact same cars, same photos and same write ups. So now if u get featured your in both mags, and they don't hesitate to put the same articles in hot 4s etc

They consolidated the writers and photographers as well. From what I understand there is not much money being made in magazines and they have looked to save money.

    • Means something is not set up right, tune/calibration related.
    • Finally replaced the previous temporary mesh indicator surrounds (temporary was the last 10+ years 😂) with a 3D printed GTR style version for the front indicators. I think it looks a lot nicer than the old setup and at least the indicators now point in the correct direction rather than angled off. Needed a little bit of tweaking to deal with the intercooler piping but got there in the end. Old and new photos below.
    • It's weird to me that you say this because I'm pretty sure locals with relatively standard standalone tunes (boost/barometric compensated alpha-N) still have driveability issues when they pop intercooler hoses. Maybe with enough data I can just train some kind of model that spits out an expected grams/cyl given every sensor input except MAF like what FCA did with their Pentastar 3.6 ECU logic. Basically stock everything. The main motivation honestly is to have a sensor that can be a decent baseline source of truth. In scenarios you're describing obviously it won't work every time but it seems to me the number of corner cases that exist in MAF load is maybe not as severe and difficult to manage vs ITB alpha-N with some MAP/barometric compensation.
    • What are your plans for your blow off valves? Purely plumb back? How soft will the spring in them be? AFM can be tricky to get super smooth and nice, especially depending on the rest of the system, and then can be very easily upset if something slightly changes. IE, even if you run recirc blow off valves, you could still see issues getting it to behave at certain load points as turbos might start to spool, but you release the throttle but it's not enough pressure to crack the bov open to recirc, and you can end up with reversion which can cause double metering, and hence dumping of fuel into the system, and stalling the engine.   If you're going to run a map sensor for closed loop boost control from the ECU, what makes you want to keep the AFM?
    • It's not bad, it's just not flexible. And say if you have any leaks between the MAF and plenum, well then your load axis goes out the window. Here's a real world scenario, I blew off an intercooler hose last track day, as the clamp decided to Bluetooth itself somewhere. Still continued to do 2 laps and drive it to the pub for a couple of beers then home. Good luck doing that with a MAF setup
