Hi all,

During the period of which i have owned the car (1 month) there has been a consistant oil leak from the car. Im not the most car savvy person so im in need of help to figure out what is leaking and where from.

The car is a 1989 R32 Gtr and i have attached a photo of where it is leaking from you will notice in the picture where all the built up ammount of black oily residue is.

Cheers

Dylan.

sorry to say mate that description and pic doesnt do much to help us diagnose it.

Your best bet is to get in there with degreaser and wash all the evident oil off and then hose it down (avoid getting water onto electrical components- i find a kettle of hot water best for this job as you can pour the water exxactly where u want it and avoids overspray onto electrics, and the hot water helps to move the oil residue with the degreaser)

then keep an eye on it over the following days and try to pinpoint the leak from exactly where it is coming from.

Another problem in trying to diagnose when the leak is already there is that the engine and undercarriage section gets alot of air turbulence so you would be suprised how far from the source n in strange directions it can carry the oil leak...

Jack up the car and take a photo, also try jjman's approach.

Most likely the oil leak is coming from the rear main seal, or the sump or the cam covers. I find RBs like to leak from the cam covers

They usually leak oil out the BOV's.

Yeah I had a feeling from that description it would make it hard to diagnose. The advice helps though I'll jack the car up this arvo and do what you said.

Appreciate the advice!
