Soo I bought a reputable brand clutch 400kw single plate less than 3 months ago & had it fitted by a reccomended workshop on this forum, all was fine untill the other night.

Went to change gears and peddle went straight to the floor & couldn't select any gear, got under the car and inspected and found that the throw out bearing had separated from the pressure plate, is this a common problem with pull type clutches? What would usually cause this failure? Just asking for opinions.

Spoke to the clutch manufacturer and the said the see this issue a fair bit and that it's cause by ppl letting the transmission hang from the clutch during re installation. The asked me to take it in to them so they can inspect it,

Hopefully they will warrant it as I don't want to spend another $1600 on a clutch for it to fail again.

If it is the installers fault then I hsve fat chance of them covering it as they seem to have closed their business

Not good mate.

even hanging the box, I wouldn't expect this.

generally, you put the box up, then engage the bearing.

its pops in, but can't come out.

unless the clutch had it in to begin with, not many do.

keep us updated.

obviously it shouldn't pop out, but maybe the clip was damaged on install? will be obvious when inspected.

you could try unbolting the slave and see if the bearing clips back in? but if it is damaged it will probably pop out again.

Got the box out over the weekend, problem was as expected, the circlip the retains the throw out bearing was in 2 pieces and bent as a mofo. Took it all to the clutch shop, they replaced the clip, machined the pressure plate and flywheel and repucked the clutch plate with new pucks. Right there and then, No questions asked all for $0. They even gave me a clutch aligning tool aswell.

Cannot ask for better service than that.

I just finished bolting the box up to the engine, hsve to wait on a few things from Nissan before I can get it driving again.
