I've been searching for the past 15-20 minutes trying to find more info about motorkhana builds for 32-Rs.

I have a 89 BNR that I'm going to send over the USA eventually. It's very much stock except for a few bolt-ons, etc so I don't want to modify it much (stock 32-Rs are getting rare). I decided to run motorkhanas because of the ability to have fun while not causing too much stress on my old GTR.

From searching on SAU, I see that hardly anyone races their GTR in motorkhana. I found more that GTS enjoy the sport as opposed to Rs. It seems that more GTRs are rally'ing, road racing, etc.

I don't mind road racing (HPDEs in USA) in 'stock/street' class either but motorkhana is a lot cheaper and more accessible so I'm leaning more towards that.

Is the GTR a bit of overkill for motorkhana?

Should I just focus more on a road race build?

well, unless I misunderstand autocross is a bit quicker and more open than our motorkhanas, so it won't be so bad. They are a little large and heavy for local khanas, but still great fun :)

In the end, you'd still get eaten by an evo or some sort of mini special

Thanks, mate.

I've done autoX'ing in the past and loved it but I suppose it's not as popular in Oz like it is in the US. I remember a lot of younger guys were autoXing and usually the older drivers were doing HPDEs

No way overkill! I've competed in GT-Rs for the last 18months at our Vic SAU days (max speed is around 140, avg about 60-80) - and the GT-Rs go just as well as the 180s etc. Just gotta learn how to drive them and set them up really.

Good diffs, suspension & brakes will make the world of difference. Of course power will also help and either way if i was you - change those turbos before they fail and potentially take the motor out.

For a good khana setup if you put on say:

Garrett -7s / PFC/ Tune

Nismo Diffs & transfer case rebuild & a high volume sump

18s or 17s with good rubber

Brakes (perhaps the GB? Link in sig)

You'll have around 300rwkw, and it will be super responsive & nimble (well, as nimble as a GT-R can be) and handle like a RWD or AWD car as the diffs lock hard and are good for tight stuff to get the ass around and then straighten the wheels and bury the pedal and 4 wheels drag you out :)

I had larger -5s but for that type stuff on a 2.6ltr they are too laggy.

^^

You saying you competed in morokhanas? I'm not sure what Vic SAU days are.

I definitely want to setup the GTR for maximum grip while still maintaining the originality of it.

Thanks for the build-list. ATM, I'm think about doing a simple 33-R brembo upgrade as opposed to anything to crazy.

Just youtube "SAU-VIC DECA" - there will be heaps of footage of skidpan and also the back-track type stuff. Not your traditional stuff, little more speed involved but I managed to get a R33 around pretty well when i remembered which way to go :merli:

33-R brembo's are overpriced and a waste by the time you get new rotors, pads, rebuild (and paint) the calipers etc.

^I can get them fairly cheap in Japan. Believe it or not but I have a set of front R34 Brembos before I found out that I would have to drill a larger hole. lol.

I watched the videos, mate. Thanks for the info. ;)

Back on the subject of racing the GTR. What are some good engine supporting mods that I can do to help the engine longevity? For example, oil sump, ceramic coat the block, mine's cam baffles, Tomei oil orifice, etc. I want to keep everything stock but I do want to add lots of supporting mods.
