R34 Gtt Bc Br Coilovers

Hi

I recently brought BC Racing coilovers for my GTT.

I have installed them and set the spring preload to 4mm.

I have set the damper 6F 4R.

I can still feel every bump in the road.

Any ideas on how to tune these better and any recommendations on the preload and damper.

No problem, will try that tonight, wouldnt it be harder suspension though

what do you know about spring preload?

You need just enough preload on the springs to make them captive.

As for dampening are you adjusting away from full stiffness? This is how you generally adjust coilovers so when you say 6 and 4 I assume that is the amount of clicks off (to the left) off full stiffness.

nah, i count all the way left as 1 then all the way right as 30.

I just done 15 clicks from all the way left.

As for the preload, i followed a video on youtube by bc racing, he loosened the spring all the way, then tightened it by hand until he couldnt anymore, then he measured 4mm and tightened to that.

What spring rates did you get them in? The adjustable damping setting can only do so much.

IMHO the standard BC BR rates of 8kg front, 6kg rear are still pretty stiff for your average roads. I went softer, with 6kg front and 5kg rear, and I've been very happy with the ride and control.

that video is not for the type of coilovers you have for a R34 GTT.

Adjusting damping is dead simple on your coilovers, just follow the directions in the manual that came with the coilovers.

On this note, often its found that setting them to the softest setting on damping doesnt give the softest ride, a few clicks off totally soft in the back and a few more in the front is usually the best.

As for the spring preload, by all means go for the softest possible. To do this basically have the preload as wound out as far as possible and then adjust your ride height by screwing in the mounting cyclinder at the bottom of the coilover.

But beyond all this most of your ride comfort is going to be dictated by your spring rates that are in the coilovers you have bought. Standard BC's for skylines are 8kg front and 6kg rear, which is fairly firm and possibly a bit firm for people used to soft ride as well as driving in areas that have bumpy roads.

Iv got 8kg&6kg in my R33 with the damping up way more than that (recommended above) as well as upgraded swaybars, strut braces and nolothane bushes all around (+18's & low profile tyres). And all this isnt too stiff for me. But this is driven in perth where the roads are alot smoother, melbourne is much more bumpy in the metro area and would certainly be too stiff a car for those conditions...
