2012 SAU-Vic EGM/Committee Elections

Location: Garage Cafe

Time: 6:30-10:30PM (7:30PM Formalities)

Date: Wednesday 20th Feb

Food: Finger Food.

Drink: Beer & Soft Drink

The 2013 SAU Vic elections will be held via EGM at the February Club Meeting on Saturday 16th February 2013

At this meeting, the new Committee for 2013 will be elected. All current Committee members will step down on 16/02/2013.

So when exactly is / was this?

And isn't it the AGM (Annual General Meeting)? An EGM is an Extraordinary General Meeting.

An AGM is exactly that an Annual General Meeting

And EGM is an Extraordinary meeting, a meeting called upon by the Committee members

Not sure what the relevance of whether its an AGM/EGM has any bearing on the topic discussed at hand

Are we really going to argue becuase the post has an E and not an A? Are you not going to turn up because its an EGM and not called an AGM?

The agenda of the meeting is clearly outlined in the first post.

The rules of the Club are governed by the Club constitution, this dictates how the club is run. There are no set rules from every incorporation. i could call it a PGM (Party General Meeting) and if that's what the constitution says that's what it will be.

In addition we have already had a AGM this year. So should we call this our Double Annual General Meeting?

Sorry Tony, but you are wrong. The club may be governed by its constitution, but that constitution is governed by the Incorporations Act, which has recently been amended. As an executive committee member, this is something you need to be aware of. The Incorporations Act contains what are termed "model rules", and it is these that are generally used to form the constitution of incorporated bodies, like SAU-Vic.

If you have already had an AGM, then that is the time you should have elected a new committee.

Because the Incorporations Act 2012 has changed the "model rules", many incorporated bodies are calling Extraordinary General meetings to pass a resolution to the effect that their constitution be changed in line with the revised model rules.

As an executive member of the committee, I suggest you familiarise yourself with the rules that govern the operation of incorporated bodies.

The club's constitution doesn't need re-writing, it just needs to be adhered to. Unfortunately, I can't stand for committee, as I am not a financial member of SAU-Vic.

(FWIW, I have some 20 years experience in serving on the committees of various incorporated bodies)

It's governed by the 'model rules' or it can create its 'own' rules.

Your association may use the model rules, or create its own rules. Either way, the rules must address every item listed in Schedule 1 of the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012
