Moving To Adelaide Maybe, Good Area To Live?

Hi guys,

I'm considering moving to Adelaide and looking at a place in Wynnvale/Golden Grove area.

Whats it like? Safe, pleasent place, how long to drive to city, industry/work in the area?

Would like to know all the usual things you want to know when moving somewhere lol.

What would be your preferred suburb to live? (without spending a fortune).

every suburb has good at bad areas. both wynnvale and golden grove are good. also Grenwith fairview park and a few other in the N.E area worth a look. all about 18KM to the centre of city. depends what type of work you do as where to go for wrk.

stay N.E avoid Sailsbury elizabeth and similar ones on the flats in the North. I prefer the N.E than Southern area but thats just personal preference.

also depends if you are looking to rent or buy. what is your budget etc.

looking at a place on Starling crt. which looks pretty nice. Have heard about elizabeth/salisbury and wondered if this was too close, lol.

workwise, will be looking for admin or entry level finance i guess, maybe surveillance or cctv, possibly travel agent. Pretty flexible so long as its day shift =)

curious if its like an industrial area out NE or business orientated or just suburbia......

Stick with Wynn Vale/Golden Grove/Greenwith and you'll be fine. What's more HESLO will be around the corner, so you can drive past his house and watch him getting changed in his front room...apparently

Love it mate, wouldn't live anywhere else. Everything I need is nearby, its quiet and its reasonably affordable

I'm working in Payroll/Finance atm.

Does Adelaide have much in the way of CCTV monitoring? as i wouldn't mind getting back into surveillance.

I work in security. Heaps of work in Adelaide. Never done the monitoring side of things, more pubs, clubs and stuff.

Northern suburbs are great for work. Bit to close to Elizabeth for my liking, but if you got a fence and dog you will

Be fine. Mind you southern suburbs are not so good for work and can be just as bad

Scummy ppl, especially Noarlunga area.

I'm not gonna give Adelaide the ultimate plug, but it ain't a bad place. I've lived on the far north coast of NSW an also spent time in Sydney.

My biggest hate about Adelaide.

The roads. Worst roads I have ever driven on. Uneven surfaces, pot holes, cracks, slopping roads to the point trucks can't use the left because of trailer slapping the stobby poles, There are gas mains every 100meters positioned right on the driving line so you smash the S**t out of your spension. Driving becomes a game of dodge ball (so to speak). It's extremely frustrating.

Especially if you love your car.

Other then that, Adelaide's fine.

problem with all opinions of Adelaide is that Northeners will bag the South and vice versa... (same as most states I assume)

I have live both and am very, very happy to live far south of Adelaide.

Christies/Noarlunga is the south version of Salisbury/Elizabeth... take your pick. I don't think any honest person would disagree that north of Adelaide crime is more common across the board also so take that into account when asking about safety.

Saying that though I have to agree that if you want to live closer to the city and be closer to the car import industry then north is for you 100%. I'll never live north as I value my equity near the beach and lower crime rate.

Oh and not being a target of all police is nice too... in my 17 years of driving i have found that up north police are far more likely to pull you over for a random stop in an import than down south (and with my old R33 it was weekly)

I'm an honest person, and spending a great deal of time both north and south, I'd very much disagree with that. Hell, I live a hop skip and a jump from Davoren, other than some vandalism many years ago, never had a problem here.

Though for the sake of it, my car was once broken into, and some shit was knocked off. Though I was central then. And I've had a window broken when I parked a car at Smithfield station.

I witness the same down south, and get similar reports from southern residents about their areas.

I've been pulled for a random stop out north, wait for, 10 times. Over 8 years.

Out south? 10 times. In the 5 years that I've been a regular visitor.

How many times in the cbd? Many more than 10 times.

Be it in the daily, the Lexus, or the Sil.

I give no f**ks for the N vs S bullshit, I happily rubbish both equally, but when someone wants an honest opinion, I deliver it happily.

Elizabeth, Salisbury, Craigmore (where I live), Golden Grove, Modbury, like anywhere, there are specific areas in those suburbs you'd probably be wary of, but overall, if you're a smart shopper, you won't be disappointed with where you live.

Noarlunga, Christies Beach/Downs, Huntfield, etc etc etc, same as above.

There are places both north and south that I wouldn't want to be walking through at 2 in the morning, and places I wouldn't want to leave my car overnight, but Hell, same could be said for the CBD, or Norwood, or any upper crust suburb.

By all means, give an opinion of places you know personally, where you've lived for a period of time, but leave bias, and any second hand opinions out of it.

I'm sure there is an online tool to give facts. I'm only giving my opinion based on news reports (i'm sure we all watch the news or listen to the radio) over my lifetime.

Ahh here is one. http://www.ocsar.sa.gov.au/maps.html Only valid up till 2010 but i'm sure there are others around.

I'll leave any further of my opinions in a thread that seemed to be asking for opinions.

good to see the areas I call home have the lowest rate per 1000 people....

in those crime maps you do get specific suburbs within councils that keep the numbers up...

the rule of thumb i would use is: stay clear of housing trust areas and places with lots of lowered commodores

I live in Wynn Vale and we think it's a great place to live. Everything we need is close, the people are friendly and there are plenty of walking trails around the dam/creek.

There is a bus rout that runs directly into the city via the O'bahn with is very handy. It only takes about 30mins to get into the heart of the city which is about the same as driving. It's definitely a good option if your working in the CBD and don't have private parking available to you.

This is certainly the issue with the Noarlunga area... at one stage a huge percentage of it was Housing Trust. I sounded kinda narky with my comment too which was my bad... kinda hungover when I typed it.

I find the upper blackwood area a joy to drive around and when you shoot straight down the hill it's not too bad distance wise from the city. I enjoyed living in the hills while i was up there too.
