Hey guys,

So a few months back I had a grinding metal on metal noise come from my clutch when pushing it to the floor.

Gearbox was pulled out, cleaned, thrust bearing replaced and the noise dissapeared until now! It's returned.

So the noise comes when pressing the clutch pedal to the floor. It's a metal on metal noise not the normal bearing noise from a thrust bearing. The noise happens when first driving the car and after heating it up and driving around for a while it stops.

Anther thing to note is you can feel the grinding in my gearstick when changing gears as well as in the foot pedal.

Ideas?

sounds pretty standard but when you say they pulled out the box did they take the casing off and inspect the internal bearings?

From my understand they told me they pulled the box out and changed the thrust bearing. They didn't change the spigot.. Is the spigot behind the casing?

What internal bearings are there?

Spigot is in the end of the crank..the input shaft sits inside it.

bearing on the input shaft, some in the rear part and in the center plate. I have pulled apart a few rb20 boxes that sounded similar to what you describe and they all had a failed bearing somewhere.. Pretty larbour intensive to fix so wont be cheap

Is it possible to do this work yourself or do you have to have a fair understanding in pulling a gearbox apart?

Like the other guys said replace the spigot first and see how you go, if you took it to a workshop complaining about the noise then they should have changed it while the box was out.
