Hi guys,

not sure if this is the right section for this but i assumed this would be the place for the best help

Ive bought a set of defi din Gauges and im "trying" to install them into my R32 GTR.

Ive removed the standard set of Tri gauges but i can not for the life of me figure out how im going to mount the new set of gauges as the unit is a different size and has completely different mounting points.

is there anyone who has done this or has any bloody idea how i can mount it securly and make it look neat?

cheers

Maybe show us some pictures. I have fitted some defi's in single din slot above the radio before and they were a direct fit. It was on a gtst which shouldn't be any different. They were the 3 gauges in a row and single din.

Yes i see what you ve done there, i was hoping to mount the gauges up the top though.

i guess the gauges could sit at the bottom

i have a bit of an idea what i would like to attempt, ill put it in my next post

so in these first 2 photos you can see the gauges dont fit up in the top teir as they are too wide and the centre console becomes narrow

so my idea is to Shave back the inside of the console housing using a die grinder

then attach a bracket each side of the unit with a small 90 degree bend on the ends for mounting

also weld a nut onto the back of the bracket so i can put a bolt through the other side

and then use this mounting hole with a washer on the front face

though this method will leave a substantual gap at the top, the next photo is an approximation in the top left hand corner

hope this is easy to read

Sounds like you have it almost sussed. I forgot that the gtr and gtst climate control are different. If you got a gtst one you could put that at the top and gauges in the middle. Those gauges are really meant for the bottom 2 slots.

no i havent tried that yet but it does look like it would fit, like i said i was really hoping to have the gauges at the top where the old gauges use to be.

Any ideas on how to fill larger gaps if i end up having any? the defi gauges are a bit thinner top to bottom then the standard ones

If you have a look closely at my picture I put a length of black rubber hose between the gauges and the radio. It looks quite neat. Personally I wouldn't cut anything just incase you ever want to return it to factory. Thats just me. Im obsessive when it comes to this as some would say.

here is a pic of your idea brad, climate control isnt mounted though its just sitting there,

ive looked at it and the climate control is going to be harder then the gauges so i may just go with the original plan of die grinding some of the plastic out.. it wont be able to be seen anyway as it will be covered by the consol cover

Yes I realise they fit in the bottom 2 slots.. Though how are you supposed to move the CD player/ climate control to the top because they sure as hell don't bolt straight in

This may help you

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
