i want to get some semi slicks for the drags so i can hammer it off the line with bugger all wheel spin, but i have had a few people say that they have to much grip and either you will break you driveline or wreck you clutch (3000 rpm launch i do). anyone had experience??

hd clutch and currently have 210rwkw but soon will have around 250rwkw +

If you can't launch well with 250rwkw on street tyres, you are doing it wrong :P

Put it this way - I was doing 8200rpm launch limiter launches with 4x 275/17 Hossier Drag radials and 360rwkw in my GTR - I broke the front diff after about 30-40 of them in 2 days and put some wear wear on the clutch a $2000 Nismo Coppermix (which had already seen a good 200+ launches, and 3-4 years of work).

With 250rwkw and RWD you should be fine as long as the clutch is decent. If you have a cheap clutch and do some big RPM launches, then expect it to end badly.

Does your coppermix fade at all Ash? I got a single plate one, wondering how it'll like launching with drag radials and 330kw..

Nope... bog a launch and try again 5 seconds later and it still has no issues.

lol... Almost...

It did get a bit stinky if I did 2-3 runs back to back - and I'm talking full 8200rpm launches on radials. It was also near death so that wouldn't have been helping.

When doing normal launches on street tyres, it was a walk in the park - could do them back to back no drama.

+1

There's more to preventing wheel spin than just tyres though, you can have 300 wide slicks it'll be useless if you have stock suspension and 5 degrees negative camber.

~180rwkw, Exedy HD clutch, stock NA box, tailshaft, diff etc. Wanted to run sub 9 seconds (1/8th) in a %100 street trim/street-to-track car. Had big traction issues first time out due to old cheap worn tyres. Changed to a pair of Goodyear Eagle F1's, done minimum of 30 3-4000rpm launches and using the clutch to prevent the car bogging down, had no driveline issues thus far, clutch and gearbox feel fine. If you have the stock GTT box I doubt you'll have problems unless you drive like an idiot.

tl;dr

-Slicks shouldn't be required

-Suspension and alignment are

-Driveline should be fine if maintained and clutch is up to it

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.

    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
