hi all

i am looking at converting my r31 skyline to rb20det and i can get hold of a Redtop Nics version For Cheaps with loom etc....

now i have a question

Are the RB20DET Redtop And Silvertop Exhaust Manifolds the Same?

both have a T3 Style Flange??

if i buy a custom exhaust manifold of a silver top eccs will it bolt up to the redtop NICS motor?

i know they are probably pretty slow standard but i looking at getting a front mount etc....

thanks for your input all :)

yes they are the same except that the silver top one makes about 10kw more than the red top... if you search for it you might find out some stuff..

i think they both have the smae size turbo but different and a few other little things..

do a search and find out.

NICS engine had a slightly different head to accommodate variable inlet runner lengths. This is achieved by having 2 inlet ports, one of which had a butterfly to open / close the port. Problem was the butterfly eventually gave up and jammed, so the engine ran like a dog.

I believe you can bolt the ECCS head on, but by the time you've done all that, you might as well have spent a few extra $ on a ECCS engine.

What lets the nics down is the size of the turbo, it's tiny. Stock turbo on my coupe is 8psi but by the time you reach 7000rpm it drops to 5.5psi. Thats with 3 inch exhaust with custom dump and K&N pod filter. Once you replace the turbo it produces alright power.

The thing that lets down the nics rb20 is the ecu, with an r33 turbo bolted on, you can only run about 11-12psi max as the ecu starts overfueling like crazy.
