Sorry for another actuator thread and I have searched but my problem seems a little different.

I went for a drive yesterday and the drivers doors wouldn't unlock with either my fob or the key in the lock. There is resistance from lock and when I use the fob there are no flashes unless I press the lock button. I ended up going through the boot and opening it using the switch to unlock the but if I use fob or key nothing happens for locking or unlocking regarding the locking mechanism it self. I don't fancy leaving the car unlocked or climbing through the boot each time so hoping for some help/advice.

I'm wondering if I replace the actuator will this solve my problem or is it something else freezing up?

Cheers in advance

Niall

P.S Passengers door doesn't move either but never has(actuator gone)

Sounds strange, but i have been researching for weeks trying to find a half decent video/images guide on how to replace the door lock actuator as i have a new one sitting at home but i can't manage to get my arms into the tiny space to work with it.. and i don't fancy the idea of removing the window.

i seem to have a thing for saying "id be checking the fuses" latey.... but yeah thats what i'd do. sounds like the locking system could have no power, turning the key would feel heavy because its not being electrically assisted.... pressing the lock botton on the window switch panel should also have no effect (but thats assuming its not an independant circuit)

it could well be the actuator tho

Hmmm well the key and fob both started working again this afternoon and then all of a sudden stopped. The lights now seem to work when I use the fob and sounds like the lock is trying to move but nothing happens along with when I use the key. I'll check all the fuses tomorrow and also try and remove the door panel to see. I can't seem to find the diy on how to replace the oem actuator.

i took the entire trim off when i replace my window motor, the door lock is located in a stupidly tight place. Right up in the corner, it's not an easy job i haven't tried it yet but it looks tricky as hell.. that's why people opt to do the $5 fix which you can find the DIY on g35driver.com

Yeah I've looked at the $5 fix not sure whether to go for it or not, I'm going to have to get my hands on the packs if I do but I'd rather replace the oem part to be honest as long as I could find the DIY with pictures.

I'll probably try replace it next weekend with a mate, if you find a DIY please let me know mate. I have looked over the internet a fair bit though so unless it's been put up recently i don't think you'll have much luck :/

gut the door... so glass out, wind reg out, guide rails out,

already said this 3-4 times now.. if you are not confident in doing it pay someone to do so :)

There isn't anyone worth paying in Mackay. Think that that's the problem.

Ended up doing the actuator fix tonight. Was a pain in the ass but seems to be working quite well now. Been wanting to do it for over 2 years now since i bought the V. Couldnt bring myself to drill holes and cut off pieces of the lock.

Bought a spare interor door handle just in case I screwed up.

i did it over the span of 3 days.

1st day i taped the central locking wires behind the speaker (20mins).

2nd day i created the bracket and mounted the actuator on it (30mins).

3rd day i drilled holes in the lock and door card and mounted everything (2 hours).

Its actually a very easy fix to install. The only thing that worried me was making sure i was drilling holes in the right spot to have it all aligned properly.

I would suggest buying a spare interior door handle. The fix requires you to snap off a tab in the handle which means if you decide not to go ahead with the fix and want everything back to the way it was, the lock cable has a high possibility to fall out.

    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
