going for my tune very soon so i need some tips and advice.

i have my gt30 on my manifold with external gate welded off it. Runs ok but stalls if i hit boost then back off, it does no stall if i down gear.

any one else had this trouble ?
do i keep my airflow meter in the stock position ?
and the injectors im looking at buying are bosch1000cc. if they are 14mm top 48mm in length and 14mm bottom they should drop straight in to the standard r34 fuel rail true or false ?

You have a GT30 externally gated and haven't tuned the car yet?

Sounds like afm reversion, can you post pics of the intake setup?

I would love to help you out with the injectors but the guy supplying them should be doing that, surely.

ive had that problem of the stalling so will be interested to hear if you fix it, once you get it tuned you'll be loving it, nothing like an angry rb and E85 is a must :P

Can I test if its the bov if I disconnect it? Or does it have to plum backed though the standard pipe

Needs to be plumb back, flutter is still going to cause issues with air flow.

I think the issue will be with reversion though. That AFM is too close to the turbo there, and your intake pipe only has one bend in it. An 'S' shape would be better, and the AFM should be a bit further away from the turbo. Really you should be extending that intake pipe anyway, you've got that pod filter sitting right in the hottest part of the engine bay.

My plan is to reuse the standard air box. The pod set up is just temporary. I want it to be clean and easy for my tuner to work with, and the more stock looking the better.

Best to fix the reversion issue before giving it to the tuner. Shouldn't be too hard to setup so that it can still be temporary, that intake clearly isn't going to work with the standard air box as it is anyway. I would suggest welding another 90 degree bend onto that intake pipe, one that positions the intake so that it can still work with the standard air box. Or at the very least, buy a 90 degree silicon joiner and use that for now.

With any luck, that will position the AFM far enough away from the turbo, and the two bends in the intake pipe should help prevent any reversion as well.

You should never tune teh car with one type of filter on it (pod) and then change to another sort (airbox). The airflow pattern into the AFM will differ between the two giving slightly different signals for the same quantity of air (or the other way of looking at it, at the same AFM signal you'll have a different amount of air flowing). This is of course completely mental. The only way to do it is to keep the same filter setup.

When I first turn on the car it idles and runs fine. But let's just say if I go shopping and come back after 30 mins the car runs really bad. It seems like if the car is flooding or the plugs are fouling up !

Any ideas? it's just started last night !

    • Dunno what to tell you, when I look at it on Consult I can see this warmup timing map kicking in around 40C coolant temp and it sticks around for a while:  At part throttle on the normal base timing map it peaks around ~43 degrees of timing or something like that, this warmup timing map drops it to like 12-15 degrees. 
    • I don't think that's what you're seeing. Something else doing that. The only time I've seen it get so retarded is when it's trying to control idle (in which case we're not talking about mapped timing tagets anyway) and when there is an extreme coolant temperature sensor fault. The RB26 ECU is essentially the same as the 20 ECU and I knew that ging inside out. There is no facility for it to retard that heavily on cold start. The OEMs never used to do it back then. I mean, shit, the catalyst is abotu 3 miles down the exhaust anyway. Early light-off was just a twinkle in some EPA arsehole's eye back then, not a regular engine control strategy.
    • I must preface my comments with a general expression of ignorance. I have no specific knowledge of these NA automtaic things. I can only assume that the "steering wheel button" is for enabling the tiptronic controls. Wierd that it would even need/want a button for that... But anyway.... Was the car previously tiptronic? Did you put a new cluster in as part of all this?
    • Regardless, it doesn't seem wise especially on RBs to actually chase MBT. Timing scatter is the big one on stock CAS, even if that's fixed overshoot is worse than undershoot. 
    • It's all about reducing the overall output. Reduce the source of it, you have wayyyy less to deal with in every other step and trick you play with. It's why something like a modern vehicle, so VW, Audi etc, there's thousands of tables for the ECU to calculate what it should be doing with the engine.   Why would you NOT reduce emissions the most effective way possible, when it has very minimal tradeoff, AND manufacturers are always struggling to meet the current standards.
