G'day Guys

firstly let me intrduce myself

Nick: Always Drifting

Location: Victoria

Drive an R33 Skyline Gtst

So why am i looking for tassie Drifters?

easy, planing a tirp to tassie along with a few others, to

see what you guys have in the way of Drift down there, and show

the hay drivers what its all about.

we plan on bringin a small crew, big drift spec s13 silvia, 180sx, skyline R33

and an old school celica <--- dont be fooled it can really drift.

Down to the nitty gritty

Can anyone tell us of some great areas to drift around?

We would like to meet up with as many drifters as possible whilst we are there,

and film as much of the action as posible.

When we have a final date it would be good to orgainise a good meet and greet.

hope to hear from you guys.

we are trying to organise drift days, but have had some public laibility issues.

there are 'some' places for drift but not suitable for continuous use.

we have few guys down here keen on the drift, i just need an engine to get myself drifting.

The big roblem here is pot holes- there everywhere! If you wanted to get some good video you could drift up mount wellington, but only in the summer...fantastic view/background. Like with most things car related, tassie is a little behind but even if you don't get the video you want, come back because things are really starting to take off. Maybe you could organise a track to drift on as there are a lot of moddified skylines that are race only spec.

Keep in touch, so we can spread the word for you.

Thanks Smooth

heard from a couple of people to look out for the pot holes.

Mount Wellington is looking pretty good at the moment for some nice footage

out of the skyline.

so far its looking like it will be around the start of august for the trip down.

hoping for some wet weather to make it a bit more spicy.

Mount Wellington would be very dangerous...farked road, ice and no run off. One fark up and there would be a fair chance your dead

I have always wanted to drift grasstree hill and film it...in car camera plus afew people dotted along the road side...be "do-able" if you could block off the road at night for about 30mins. Have a car in front with a radio to tell you if a car is coming...only problem would be the wildlife

you can get onto baskerville for the day for about $99 per person....Symmons costs alot of hire it out but im not sure of the prices

no worries...by all means check her out but some parts of road doesn't get alot of sun so look out for ice...its always cold and wet up that bloody mountain :)

Grasstree is in the south of the state...about 15mins out of hobart and connects Geilston bay with Richmond...great road to drive, smooth with no pot holes and lots of twisties :( I love powering over there in the 180sx but have never tried to drift the whole hill...too many blind corners so a night run would be best (you can see the lights) but then you have to watch out for the wildlife...give me a yell if your going up, i will be there :)

Baskerville isn't a bad track but is in need of repair. Lots of cracks in the track and what not...i always seem to have bad luck at that track as well...brake caliper on the 180 shat it self last time, wrote off a RX7 the time before that when the throttle jammed wide open....

Grasstree is the one I was thinking of, but couldn't think of the name. It would be the best one, smooth and reasonablly quiet. Mt wellington is a bit dangerous, but on the right day with no ice, then why not...just keep the speed down.

update:

with any fun a price tag is attached.

this week our number of car listed for some tassie fun

has been cut by half.

the 180 has been sold.

the old school celica has self detructed mid drift. with the Diff seizing and the rest of the drive line destroyed whilst the foot was still on the floor. its in need of a complete rebuild.

down to 2 cars for the trip we still plan on getting to tassie with the best we can.

S13 has been garaged to have a few things seen to.

what is there in the way of tyre shops in south tassie?

can some one inform me about higher octane petrol in tassie - been told not may stations

have high octane for sale. is this true?

Unless your in a car club(or know someone who is) then you'd better bring some octane booster with you...

As for tyre shops, theres heaps in the south(as long as you don't have 19's...). They would be able to hook you up with most tyre brands, except nitto's.(Just guessing about the nitto's).

u outta check out the scenic East coast,

from the seaside town Bicheno to the Midlands Hway via Lake Leake road is excellent.. steep and winding up and steep and fast down with a scenic backdrop

also from St Helens thru the Weldborough Pass is a tight climb with great views and less traffic and less top speed takes u to scottsdale...where the infamous sideling road starts.

the best drift spots on the north west coast are in the country areas around wilmot, gentle annie, lower barrington, aberdeen, forth.... the list goes on. ive got an MR30 and i drift that area reguraly. you only ever come across 2 or 3 cars
