update?

Also, what type of oil and how much did they use?

Can greatly affect the life of the compressor.

Hi Luke,

After inspection, it looks as though the AC compressor had overheated internally and seized.

The A/C specialist suspected the pressure's were too high due to the older original condensor design as the system was not designed to operate on R134a.

We used PAG46 oil in the new A/C compressor. Between 160-180ml.

Did they replace the reciever drier and clean out all the lines? Cause the metal shavings from the first failure will kill a new compressor very fast

Yes they replaced the reciever drier, cleaned out all the lines, even replaced one. Also did the evaporator, TX valve under the dash. Cleaned the lined out with Shellite. The works.

Hi All,

OK so here is the update and where I am up to.

I have 3x GTR R32 A/C compressors. 2x Zexel (original one off the car that leaked and a second hand working one I bought recently) & 1x Valeo (the new one that failed)

The specialist pulled apart all 3 of them and made 1 really good one. Looks like he decided to use the Zexel housing.

180ml of n8 denso oil has been put in it and we fitted it to the car.

Next we have removed the old condenser from the car, drilled out the rivets and removed the mounting brackets to be reworked into a new universal condenser.

The reason for using a new universal condenser is because it was suggested that the pressures with the original condenser was to high after retro fitting with134a gas.

The old condenser was a 'Serpentine' type and the new I bought is a much more efficient 'parallel flow' condenser.

Just waiting for the rain to clear so that we can fit it to the car, then have to clean all the lines again before recharging the system and it should be ready for winter lol.

Pictures to follow..

Hmmm.

I have a feeling it may be over oiling.

I have run 134a without any issues.

Even in temps as high as 40°.

Do you know how many mls you put in yours?

Paulyp, did you modify your condenser fan to turn on with the air con?

Hi Dark26, Yes that was modified to turn on whenever the air-con was running.

Will check the fan before re-fitting to make sure its still ok.

cant remember.

Would have been around the 30ml mark.

But, I will check the workshop manual and let you know what Nissan recommend.

Hi all,

Just another update for everyone.

We have finished fitting the AC about 2 months ago and its working well.

Went through alot of effort to fabricate brackets and have hoses made to fit. Also had to modify the standard cooling fan to clear the new condensor.

Please see below pics and it should give anyone thinking of doing the same a good starting point.

Modified GTR R32 Hoses

for what its worth, if your going to goto the effort of modifying or making up new lines for an ac system, you may aswell replace the compressor with a universal aftermarket type and just get the lines made to suit, and on the topic of higher pressures, you should have a low and high pressure switch installed to make the ac cut off if pressures get to high, yet a newer style of condenser will cool better so lower pressures a bit more and keep the car ac abit cooler.

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
