I tried searching on here and I even did some googles so now I come to you.

So I need to replace the engine oil sump on my ER34 as it got dented.

It doesn't look like it's going to be a super easy easy job.

Does anyone have any tips? Would it be easier to take the engine out or can I undo the engine mounts and use an engine crane to raise the engine enough to drop the sump off and get it out?

Cheers,

Andy

Damaged sumps are a very common problem in Syklines and for example of the 6 RB25's I currently have only three have sumps without a mark on them.

There are two ways that you can do this.

The first is the standard engine out - replace sump - reinstall.

The other option is to raise the engine slightly with an engine crane and install an engine hanger that spans fron one front guard to the other and then support the engine from the hanger. Next you support the car on a hoist for easy access under the car. Then remove the engine mounts, undo the lower control arms inner mounts and then remove the front crossmember. If you then raise the car on the hoist you have easy access to the bottom of the motor to remove the damaged sump and install a new one.

Either approach is not that difficult it just requires equipment and time to complete the job.

The other day a couple of people said I should be able to get it out by taking all the bolts for the sump out and undoing the pickup and taking that out with the sump.

Does this sound plausible?
