Well I've finally joined the club and purchased a 2004 V35 coupe and I couldnt be happier. My question here peeps is I'm stuck as to what would be the better Intake kit to fit in?? I've narrowed it down to the following 3:

Injen Sp1993

DC Sports Sri4201

aFe Takeda Retain 2 Pro dry

They all claim greatness in there own rights but what would be better in both power gains and ease? Price isnt a concern as theyre all about the same costs and I can get them from USA no dramas.

Is there a better kit I've missed??

Any help would be fantastic.

Jas

i've got an Injen cold air intake, probably doesn't do much apart from make a nice little whistle sound and seems to make the exhaust sound a tad deeper. Apparently the Stillen Z tube and a K&N drop in airbox is the best combo, that's what the americans say.

Yeh intake in theory are a great idea but in practice amount to little more than extra induction noise and something to look at when you open the bonnet (to impress your mates and cops).

I've got the JWT pop charger and a carbon fibre Z-tube - it sounds mental, but I have noticed with these consistently hot summer temps and 99% of my driving being in stop/start traffic that my fuel economy has dropped off massively. Getting around 380km's to a tank where I used to get 450km (probably some A/C partly responsible). I am sure it's because of the heat soaked engine bay, and the hot air that the pod filter drawn in is causing the car to run super rich. I know it's the case because my car sounds like a V8 supercar on overrun.....popping and cackling on decelleration.

Anyway, i think best is a Z-tube and bolt it up to the stock airbox with a nice high flowing panel filter - not an oiled type.

By running the Z-tube you'll give the air a cleaner path, and eliminate the resonator box which will give you some more induction noise. The airbox will keep the heat out. The nicer panel filter will probably replace a dirty existing one and let it breathe.

If you want the show-off factor and simply must be parted with your money, buy the Stillen or ARC boxed setup.

I have Stillen Gen 3 Ultra long intakes, really good sounding, a tad bit added power (I have not done a dyno but have done sufficient research and found that they weren't bullshitting when they said you do get a few hps from it) and looks pretty good.

After all the advice and research I'm going with the stillen hi flow intake kit which has the z tube, heat shield, velocity ring and k&n filter. I can get it outa the states including delivery for $290 which I find acceptable so thanks for all the help peeps.

Jason,

Here's the results of my investigation and pick:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/358170-new-takeda-intake-and-gtspec-strut-brace/

Conclusion: looks good and sounds great on acceleration, but I don't believe it does much for performance. I like this one because it used the stock intake vent. I'm happy with it.

Have fun.

Where are you purchasing from, Jason?

I am keen on a stillen box

Men, help me out, I cant think straight. Zulu
