Hi all , stumbled upon another GTX BB turbo I didn't know about .

This ones called GTX3067R and externally looks like the compressor end of a GT2860RS but in the newer style T04B port shrouded 0.60 AR compressor housing .

It differs from the usual GTX compressor wheels in that its 10 rather than 11 bladed and at one site they reckon they decided to give up a little high pressure ratio performance for slightly better spool .

Garrett looks to be claiming ~ 400 450 Hp (300-337 Kw) from this "compact" turbocharger size .

This is a link to their Sema booth and about half way down is a pic and brief description of what it does . Note the V Band "mohawk" turbine housing which they say will be available in three AR sizes .

Numerically speaking 67mm doesn't look real big but I think Garrett is attempting to better the 71mm 6 bladed compressor normally found in turbos like GT2871Rs and GT3071Rs . I guess if they can do that with 4 more blades and 4mm smaller major diameter why not . Note the port shrouded compressor housing would be an essential part of GTX compressor performance .

Depending on how they spool and pump overall these may be the thing Garrett wanted with the GT3071R , more turbine / flow and hopefully better compressor performance .

Yep they have been around since late ish last year, I have mentioned them before but was overlooked... Wonder if it was taken as a typo? Reckon that they could be a really good thing on RB20s/SR20s or in twin form.

I may have read it somewhere and thought it was a GTX3076R typo . If you search images of these things you often get pics of GTX3076Rs with the larger E series comp cover and 11 bladed compressor , not hard to make the obvious mistake .

I think it could be a viable alternate for a HKS GTRS though the heavier GT30 turbine may make it a little laggier . I can believe that 400 Hp is possible with a GT30 turbine where its virtually impossible with a GT28 pair , particularly in 0.64 AR form .

Pretty much agree, will make quite a bit more power than the GTRS... probably not build from basement quite as enthusiastic as GTRS but once it is on (which won't take much) I bet it will be hell l responsive.

Note that the GTX3067 is the smallest GT30R comp options but it still uses a port shrouded version of the old T04B compressor housing . The GTX3071R and GTX3076R jumo up to the T04E sized compressor housing so we don't get to see the 67mm GTX wheel in the T04E comp housing .

This is again a bit like trying to compare GT2871R compressor performance with GT3071R compressor performance , the 28s used B housings where the 30s use E housings .

If aiming for around say 300 WKw the GTX3067R may fall a tad short and the GTX3071R be a tad over the top - if you wanted the broadest usable power range .

I have no idea what to expect.

I don't know how people in Oz have fared with the GTX28 series turbos but someone local put a GTX2863R onto an SR20VE+T and made 301kw @ hubs on BP98 with full boost at 3500rpm - which is a hell of a result imho, even if the numbers wouldn't be so impressive on a DD (I would expect this to equate to >260rwkw still). Point of that comment is that at that rate the GT28 turbine housing would be becoming the limiting factor, I'm amazed they got that power and am wondering if it is due to the higher shaft speed the 63mm compressor would require to move that air allowing the turbine wheel to move more gas too or some other quirk of the combo. Fact is the 63mm compressor delivers way better than I would have expected - 301kw on that dyno is GOOD power so in hearing that result and the fact that it should be safe to assume the 67mm compressor will deliver more, and the GT30 hotside will let it clear it's throat with no issue whatsoever... so this turbo will actually make quite respectable power.

My opinion - this turbo should eliminate the GTRS/GT2871R from any consideration on RB25s. If someone wants to fit the smallest practical turbo on and still sensibly upgrade the stock RB25 turbo - this would be it.

This is not the 500whp I was aiming for as my long term plans for the SR, but this could be something rather potent none the less.

Lith a problem still exists in that aside from the HKS ones , think RB spec GT2530/2535/GTRS , no one really made a GT28 turbine housing with a T3 flange and sadly HKS only did it in 0.64AR and not 0.86AR .

What this means is no larger housing for RBs where the SR brigade have the 0.86 AR T28 housing .

I know I've looked before and in the 0.86 housing that NS111 turbine flows similarly to a GT30 turbine - in a 0.63 AR GT30 turbine housing .

I sort of wonder how a GTX2867R in a 0.86 turbine housing would compare to a GTX3067R in a 0.63 AR housing .

Anyhow I agree that for SR (T28 flange) people at least either a GTX2863R or GTX2867R is probably better and cheaper new than a HKS GTRS .

For the RB (T3 flange) people you either go GT30xxR or with either the HKS 0.64 or an OP6 housing .

I don't know if anyone ever bought a flange adapter and used Garretts 0.86 GT28 housing on an RB engine .

This is a Garrett catalog that covers many of the GTX turbos inc the GTX3067R . Interesting side notes on the GTX2860/63/67 turbos and what a few racers have gotten out of them . I suspect its with highish boost levels .

Yeah not too sure about some of those aftermarket turbine housings , some people think the material is just so so .

Well if you can bolt a GT30 turbo up with a truck style T04B 0.60 AR compressor housing I'd say yes . The RB spec GTRS is similar but with the std sized inlet snout . The Garrett housing probably has a 3" inlet boss so you need something larger to match it . Also need a different exhaust flange/dump if you currently have the std Nissan type one which GTRSs also have .

Incidentally my dump is the one I got off Woolverine and its an open or bell mouthed one .

A kind feller from the VW Vortex site ran some numbers and did a compressor map overlay of the GT2871R 52T comp wheel and the 67mm GTX compressor . Similar sorts of things though he thinks the complete GTX3067R in 0.63 turbine housing form may fall just short of 300 RWKW for an RB25 .

Basically not worth the turbo changeover price .

They suggest someone elses GT30 + 71mm billet wheel hybrid that they reckon fits in somewhere between the 67 and 71mm X wheels . Alternatively they suggest buying a GTX3071R through ATP and getting the 0.60 AR T04B comp housing rather than its usual 0.60 T04E one . Gut feeling is that GTX wheels were designed to be used with port shrouded comp housings fir a reason .

A guy in the Audi world (I think?) tried an HTA3073 out and felt it spooled at least as well as a GTX3071R - no dyno results for it as yet though, the only single turbo HTA3071 results I have seen are this:

Equates to 310kw @ wheels on pump gas....

I must add that it seems a good amount of the high power GTRs (and the workshops that produce them) seem to consider the HTA turbos as the units of choice for R35 upgrades, though a lot of the companies that sell them just advertise them as "custom Garrett"... one of the tuners said that all but 1 (or 2?) of the 8s R35 GTRs in the world are currently running FP HTA turbos. They are also very common in twin turbo form on Porsches :)

Just of late I keep coming back to this turbocharger , I have been re-reading Mick os GTX3071R results and I keep wondering what the smallest Garrett GT30 turbo can do in a 0.63 AR IW T3 flanged rear housing . Garrett quotes 500ish I think .

I'd like to here some opinions on GT30s in the lil 63 housing particularly the more modest compressor wheel options . If those that tried GT3071Rs with this housing can give their opinions I'd appreciate it . Garrett didn't have a port shrouded 0.60 AR T04B comp housing at the time AFAIK and thats what may have caused a few surge and wastegating dramas .

Lithium I think you reckoned that this dryer should replace the GT2871Rs/GTRS on RB25s and my gut feeling is the same , I'm waiting still for some innitial results and if they look positive I might give one a whirl . I've been looking at that comp map and I think a good std engine can probably take 20-21 pounds of boost particularly if its infrequent .

There is a twin turbo V8 S14 time attack car (using a 1UZFE - a bit like putting an RB25 in a Supra, but meh) using twin GTX3067R in the build at the moment in Oz apparently. That could be interesting.

I thought the Americans were all over putting aluminium V8 Chevs into S14s when SR20s and KA24s didn't cut the mustard . I6s put the weight a bit further forward particularly if it has an iron block .

I just ran some injector cleaner through her. started roughly the first time after adding it but gave it the beans slowly upto 4k, Must have cleaned a few cobwebs out. another step in the right direction for the sub
    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in

    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
