Hi Guys.. got myself a set of 350z 18x8 track wheels to replace my 20"... Couple of questions after speaking to my tyre guy ..

1) He recommended running 245/45 18 front and rear... I read some earlier posts about not doing this as it might interfere with the car's VDC controls?

2) At the moment, I got the Ken Style Front Bumper on Stock suspension and as it is right now, I scrapped almost every time! Dropping to 18's .. even with the increased sidewall .. means dropping the car lower??

By the way PN-Mad, Front Sways are Hard and Rear Soft!

Thoughts from the experienced folk out there?

Thanks! So, running 245s all round is ok for VDC. Is that good however for handling/driving? Or you won't notice anything?

OEMS 225/50 17" front and 235/50 17" rear ...

Using http://www.alloywheels.com/Tyre_Calculator, it appears I need to go 245/40 18" for Front which gives me a -0.29 difference, which should be ok.

However for the Rears, using 245/40 gives a -1.77% and 245/45 gives a +1.82% difference.

Which combo is best?

I run 225/45/18 front and 245/45/18 rear on OEM 18x8 coupe rims. I now get at the limit understeer so going 245/45 front and rear should fix that up and perhaps the tail more likely to kick out first than the front. But with that amount of rubber on the road grip levels will be higher than stock so unless you are on the track you probably will never notice it.

1. those tyres will be fine, it won't affect your VDC.

2. It'll probably still scrape lol

Wait, what? What tyres can't we run? Sorry im pretty new and am not aware of wheels effecting the VDC. Are there any writeups?

    • It's all the sound deadening, and extra shit piled into them, plus all the extra (even though it's thinner) material for crumple zones. I can't fathom in modern cars why they need canbus to the headlights, and why the headlights must be vin coded on some cars to the ECU, BCM, and security module! Especially when they claim it's for security, yet, the canbus at the headlights let's thieves steal the car in minutes, so even more cars are being stolen! The Mercedes Sprinter 907 vans. They're a huge van, but a "basic" van. Yet they have that many canbus networks, plus two Lin networks, AND an Ethernet network. Logging a single network alone of 8 byte data frames, and they will generate a 20mb log file in 5 minutes. That's one network, and I can't remember the exact amount, but there's over 10 full CAN2.0B networks in them. I'm not a fan of modern cars, oddly, more and more I hate DBW, and all the bullshittery the cars try and interfere with. But all that bullshittery adds weight, plus crazy regulations on crumple zones, plus, ever picked a modern seat up, half of them have like 4 electric motors in them and will weigh 30+kg each. Then all the motors for things like adjustable steering columns blah blah blah. And did I mention the sound deadening so you can even hear an ambulance right behind you even if you 7.2surround sound is off?
    • Ah ok, yeah it should be flat, I believe the r34 battery tray has these 3 bumps in them they makes it line up and everything is flat, don't see how it would tilt if everything is secured.
    • Agreed it actively wants to kill you which I love driving fast cars slow is my stick
    • Awesome! I was thinking S14 since they are longer. I'll give those a shot. Thanks for the input!
    • Far out, that thing looks like some loose fun!  Nothing beats the rawness of a filthy old Nissan with zero aids to keep the wheels pointing in the right direction like modern "fast" cars!
