Hey guys,

Was talking to a mate the other day and he told me about performance chips, was wondering if anyone has used performance chips in their V35, i have a 250GT Four and was wondering if a chip would be beneficial or not. If anyone has experience with these chips id love to hear about it.

Thanks

Almost all 'performance chips' are a load of bs ..... the ones you buy on Ebay are almost always just a resisitor that you need to wire/solder into your afm wire to trick the afm into running the car a bit leaner and get slightly better performance. This is of course a load of bull, as 1) our ECUs self-learn anyway and would readjust themselves in a short time, and 2) you don't want the same amount of afr changed at all rev ranges.

In short they are a load of crap, and you get what you pay for.

If by 'performance chip' you mean a piggy back or interceptor computer like an SAFC Neo or Unichip, then some gains can be had by tuning - but you are talking around $500 to buy the units then around $500 to tune.

Your best bet by far (if your model of car supports it) is to buy an Osiris cable and software and have a workshop reflash your stock ECU with a custom tune.

Of course if you are a P plater (which I am guessing you are - there is no reason in the known universe that anyone would buy a 250GT otherwise) then modifying your ecu or tune would be illegal under state laws ayways fyi.

In all of the above scenarios performance benefit is going to be negligible at best, even if you have supporting mods like exhaust, intake, spacer etc etc

Hey Nightcrawler, thanks for your info, very informative, no im not a P plater anymore however i was when i first purchased the car, now i am looking at making it go a little faster, so you say that basically these performace chips are no good, awesome lol

thanks

If it's direct injection, cleaning the intake properly (off the car), blanking the EGR valve and flushing the engine would be a good starting point.

Look to get rid of the intake swirl valves, these block off half the intake ports to promote swirl in the chamber at lower revs. I think good gains can be had here at the expense of a little cruise economy.

many, many moons ago a very wise man said to me that if you want more horsepower in your car, go out and buy a car with that many more horsepower and save your sanity And your bank account.

Years later and lots of bad experiences to draw from, all I can say is - he was right.

But look at all the fun he would have had me miss!!!

I agree with above. all the money you spend on the 250gt will struggle to make it as good as a standard 350gt

I would estimate ive spent $4000 on bolt on upgrades plus trans, and i barely keep up with a 350gt.

For around $5000 you could source a wrecked Stagea and transplant EVERYTHING mechanical and electrical yourself... this is probably the most reliable upgrade to make a 250gt proper fast.

or save your $5k, sell the 250gt, and buy a 350gt.... or an XR6 turbo

if you want some thing cheap...... safc and sitc. funnily enough i have both for sale.... perfect for autos. :woot:

Hey dude what exactly is a safc and sitc, what do they do? and how muich do you want for them?

i was looking at these valves when i did the plenum clean..... was considering a manually selectable bypass of the actuator valve...

Hey when you did the Plenum spacer upgrade did you notice much performance increase in the 250GT?

was considering this for one of my first mods, mabe then a nice exhaust system will be good aswell

i cant say whether the spacer itself made any difference, as I did a list of other things at the same time.

The combination of plenum spacer, plenum and runner clean, EGR valve blocked off, cooling system mod..... all reduced fuel consumption by 1.5 to 2 litres per 100km, but acceleration doesnt really feel much different. Im used to driving supercharged cars so of course its going to feel slow regardless...

Just piss them off, even when open they limit the flow to the valves. I am interested to see how much difference it makes but I assume you would need a tune afterwards, or at least check the AFR's.

The Stagea turbo VQ25 would be the obvious pick for a transplant, you could get a good engine for around 2k, plus an Emanage Ultimate to tune the mixtures. It should all just work off the stock ecu, as the cams actuation (and most other parts) are the same. I was planning to buy a cheap V35 4 door for the same reason but bought an A4 quattro instead.

until he gets a det, the apexis would be a cheap choice for extra killawasps no?

    • Evening fam, Pretty much what the title asks, I have looked all over and can’t find a proper answer expect one post from almost a decade ago which is vague. ive seen photos and they look pretty much identical, would an r33 GTR N1 reo work on an r32? reason I ask is they are cheaper to buy… $700 compared to 1k+ for an r32 n1 reo

    • Yeah was thinking that. I've had the car go lower idle possibly around 650rpm every once in a long time after pouring fuel and would sound quite rough like a misfire, almost like it's shit fuel or something but who knows.

Great event last year and hoping for the same this year.    I've emailed them to ask to set a location aside for the Stageas for the show and shine - they are happy to do so if we can get them numbers, I'm happy to keep track of that. Entering as Nismo category.    I'll be road tripping up from Melbourne, would be cool to convey if people are interested, maybe there is SAU convoys from each capital?
