Anyone In The Se Able To Lend Me Their Pfc For 5 Mins?

Hi Guys,

Need some urgent help in the SE (Glen Waverley) - looking to try another PFC in my car (just need to plug it in, turn the car on and off and then unplug it) - should take less than 5 minutes if some kind soul is able to help out. Need to do this before tomorrow - so any help will be appreciated!

Let me know ASAP - happy to negotiate some form of compensation for your time.

What is your current PFC doing when you try to start it?

Does anything display on the hand controller? Are you sure the controller and pfc are a compatible version?

Does it start using a standard ECU?

What mods do you have on your car? AFM? Injectors etc? As you won't be able to start it unless the PFC you're borrowing has the same mods set up.

Car starts first shot. Car drives fine. Car diesels for about 5 seconds after ignition is cut (Regardless of temperature).

Unfortunately I don't have a hand controller to see if anything is coming up / nor a standard ECU.

Car only has exhaust/pods/splitfire coils/adj. cam gears/Larger FMIC (standard AFM's/injectors/turbos/cam/fuel pump etc).

I've had issues with the PFC before so if I could try another ECU to eliminate it as a problem would be awesome. Auto-elec is coming out tomorrow afternoon, but if I can save myself a $200 call out fee would be awesome as I'm not currently working.

I can loan you a replacement standard ECU which will run a car with your mods (standard afm/injectors/cams)

My PFC is set up for my car, not your car, so it won't start up your engine.

How aggressively are your adjustable cam gears set?

So when you turn off your car it keeps firing for a little while, even though the ignition is cut (and thus the spark plugs aren't firing)... My old ford laser did this...

Potential causes

Dieseling can occur for several reasons:

  • Built-up carbon in the ignition chamber can glow red after the engine is off, providing a mechanism for igniting unburnt fuel. Such a thing can happen when the engine runs very rich, depositing unspent fuel and particles on the pistons and valves. Similarly, rough metal regions within the piston chamber can cause this same problem, since they can glow red. It has also been suggested that an improperly rated spark plug can retain heat and cause the same problem.
  • A carburetor that does not completely close can contribute to running once the engine is off, since the extra fuel and oxygen mixture can combust easily in the warm piston chamber. Similarly, hot vaporized oil gases from the engine crankcase can provide ample fuel for dieseling.
  • Incorrect timing.
  • An engine that runs too hot or too lean may produce an environment conducive to allowing unspent fuel to burn.
  • An idle speed that is too fast can leave the engine with too much angular momentum upon shutdown, raising the chances that the engine can turn over and burn more fuel and lock itself into a cycle of continuous running.

Pretty sure it's very rare for modern Fuel Injected Petrol cars to Diesel like you're describing... I'm trying to work out why you think it would be the PFC though, doesn't it have power to it cut the second you turn the key off?

A mod that you have which may relate to the "Potential Causes" list... The Cam Gears... You sure they haven't slipped at all?

Who tuned your PFC?

If you say you bought it with a tune already on it, close this thread immediately and push your car to a tuner.

I'm not sure if the wiring has been modified for the PFC? Will the standard ECU still slot in and work?

I'm not sure how aggressive the cam gears are set. RacePace did a full tune on it and did set the timing (but it was dieseling before and after that - after the PFC was fixed and the car was serviced). I have tried changing the spark plugs but strongly think it is a faulty PFC or it might even be the turbo timer - but I don't know how to remove that :(

RacePace weren't too worried about it when they saw the car, but it is driving me nuts.

To note : their was burnt tracks on the PFC originally (which is what was fixed) - and the PFC was staying on after the ignition was cut. It seems like some of the dash lights are still on when the car is dieseling and even for a seconds after the car has come to a complete stop. I hear a click (near the passenger side footwell where the PFC is) and then the dash lights go off.

Wiring shouldn't be changed when PFC is installed, they're plug n play straight to standard loom.

Talk to Racepace and see what they got to say now.

Ok, so it's not dieselling... It's just running poorly for a few seconds because you've got a turbo timer hooked up somewhere...

Get Racepace or a good auto electrician to remove it.

yeah racepace were going to send me across the street to the auto elec but he said he will come around to my place tomorrow as I'm only down the road. I was just hoping to try and sort it out before it got to that.

Does anyone know if the turbo-timer is connected through the ECCS relay? I'm now also wondering if the ECCS relay could be faulty. Guess I will find out soon enough :S

    • I believe Unimog is the only vehicle that has it (from the manufacturer). I haven't seen aftermarket permanently connected kits, but I haven't looked either.
    • Ha ha ha, can't overthink when exhausted... Oh how I wish I had that power! I can be absolutely dead set shot, and my brain will still go "we need a good 3 or 4 hours to just think about everything and anything before you may sleep... My biggest thing is making sure I give myself enough sleep. I don't operate on even 7 hours of sleep! I attempt to give my body 9.5hours sleep a night to be able to function. I don't sleep the whole 9.5, but I need to make sure I offer a big window. I also take a single supplement, which is to help with long term health, and fighting inflammation, and I notice it helps massively. Especially me sleeping, and just less "achey" in the body. Have also kicked sugar, and gluten. A majority of people with ADHD don't go well with gluten. It causes a really interesting natural opioid overdose in the brain, which causes bodily issues and sensory issues.

    • Yep. But typically that's just run a hose down to the tyre while stationary.   Oh and the Unimog will automatically air up and air down tyres from the onboard computer for you too.
    • There was a good video somewhere, maybe Kurzgesagt that linked physical activity to ADHD/Anxiety/Insomnia etc. Basically the body WILL spend energy doing something if you don't spend it doing anything physical. It isn't fun, but I personally have noticed I've never been overthinky, or unable to sleep if I'm physically exhausted from doing a lot. The musings around it seem to indicate that this is one of the reasons/mechanism that physical activity improves mental health/wellbeing etc, by more or less not using that 'extra' energy to overthink, be anxious, inflammation, etc. There's also the fact that every obnoxious exerciser ever says it's great and helps which is extremely annoying. Like people who say the same thing about travel being the best thing ever. I mean, they clearly are, but blah. I started doing a LITTLE myself (think 3x15min per week) and honestly did notice the benefits, aiming at life quality when older. Which is sooner than you think. Getting something into your routine that you can actually make a routine has helped me at least. This post brought to you by procrastination between sets.
