Please any one one with expertise in this area ,comment.

I will start with - it,s a shame i can't get some one who is non bias ( not trying to sell me the unit ) and with honest experience when it come s to ECU's.

I have GTR R32. Single Gt 35 r turbo and allsorts of other normal mods. Hasn't turned over yet, have done away with AFM's and plumb back etc. Want to stay this way for a few reasons.

Have been told , big mistake should have retained AFMS etc and gone Apexi.

nice tidy tune ,good clean Hp and the best knock sensors around ?

On the other hand , get rid of BLa Bla. Go Wolf 3d .

The problem lies with a few chaps here in WA says there all the go , on the other hand i also here that they have problems with detonation, so they tend to tune them conservatively. That gives me an uneasy feeling. The Wolf has a nick name the Hiary goat ( rough as ). Is this old hat and the new Wolf a far better unit.or - should one go motech or Michrotech with NO AFMS.

what's the honest general concensus out there guys, what's the best way to go here ??Money is a concern but not the be all end all!

You know what - this is my theory.......

There are Very Good ECUs, good ECUs and Ordinary ECUs -

Also there are Very Good Tuners, OK Tuners and Bad Tuners

Try going with a Good ECU and a Very Good Tuner and you will be OK

What I am trying to say is that the type of ECU is not the only consideration.

I would assume that Very Good ECUs are out of your budget - ie Motec, Autronic.

PFC Pro doesn't need AFMs , I understand

I use Microtech - and have not had one problem with it - LTX-12 - Good Fuel consumption - good cold start & idle control - and a few more little extras too.

hehe..went thru the same deal..was going to get Greddy, then was told to get Link, then to get Apexi..etc etc

So like B-Man said, make sure you find a tuner who is confident with whatever you end up with.

I have lost a couple of motors now and the only thing that is the same and let me down every time is the Aytronics computer and cdi unit(sux's ass).A large number of gtr's and gts skylines in Perth run wolf v4+ and have had no problems.C-red gtrrrr has a wolf installed and is running 670 hp,nd4spd runs 687hp and also runs wolf with no problems.I also have heard all the rummors but have not seen them first hand,i have spoken to many people with the wolf's installed and all seem happy and wouldn't use anything else, ask the end users in perth and if its all good give it a go.i just cut the autronics out of my car with a pair of side cutters and would strongly recommend any other computer besides Autronic.

There are also a lot of other people in perth that have pulled out autronics because of there bad experience's John Walligan with the gtr that races at wannaroo,Koong with the 26 powered 240z,1000hp supra at sst just to name a few, there are many others.

My 2 cents

Only PPL that bag Wolf is PPL that dont sell them.

Jades Blue GTR ran 11.2 last nite with a single plain bearing turbo and a Wolf plugin so we didnt tune that to soft and the most powerful GTRs in perth have Wolf .ND4SPD 682rwhp

GTAAH 671rwhp,Jades GTR 452rwhp Adam brewers GTR 458rwhp did have a PFC(402rwhp) but has a wolf now (the PFC is for sale if you want it) Got boost did 11.5 with a wolf and 2wd. Fabs GTR has a Wolf And Danny Now is changing .No GTR in WA has done what ND4SPD has done and its done many very hard miles. No other GTR in WA has matched the top few of these cars with any other ECU. Fact. Next best had a Jap tuned ECU and exploded at 550rwhp so dont believe what ppl say if they cant come up with cars to prove it.Gav Beers GTR is now going wolf also so we have his PFC for sale.

We have Shootout graphs and time cards plus many trophys and the cars for all to see.

What does the ECU have to do with the knock sensors? The hardware is already there, the ECU just plugs into it.

In fact the Apexi is crap at this as it will tell you the engine is pinging its tits off but wont/cant do anything about it (automatically retard timing etc) like the stock ECU will.

I think that would've been a good option on the PowerFC but anyway... back to the topic...

Hey thanks to all you guys out there for your interest, i think it's something we all probably go thru .It's hard decision to make and ones simply got to make the correct chioces. i am leaning towards the Wolf or Apexi d jetro, the only problem there is who can tune the Apexi properly here in Perth?

Thanks Steve from SST, I know i have discussed this with you,but one needs to make sure and you do have the state distributor ship! Never the less if i can get a good quality tune with you then --- I'll go the WOLF !

sincere thanks to you all and have fun!

i've been trying to decide which ecu to go with too, problem is everyone states how much HP they make with the ecu but cant get much info on daily-drivability, fuel consumption (closed loop?), engine protection, etc etc.

i want to try and maintain the stock ecu's drivability, is this possible?

Then Wolf and PFC are your only option.

Both setup right will match factory or better.ND4SPD is better on fuel when driving normally than my stock GTR but still makes 682rwhp.

I can arrange wolf test drives for WA PPL.

If yuor can drives bad and your dealer cant fix it then you can plug your stocker back in with plugin ECUs.

ok just had a read through the wolf website, sounds good, noticed theres only 4 ignition outputs on the v4 (unless you get the plus).

can you get a plugin v4 plus for the rb20det?

what cost am i looking at to get one with the hand controller?

Add my bit,

" Have been told , big mistake should have retained AFMS etc and gone Apexi.

I think he was talking about the inability of the Wolf to input the stock knock sensor, and display ... which is fair enough, as I assume the chipset to decipher the piezo noise, would be expensive, and rely on overseas bits, where the Wolf would use more basic PCB component list. (Please feel free to abuse my heritage if you can correct me.)

I was told by Wolf "if u tune it properly, you shouldn’t need a knock light" Sure, though its like not have a fuel gauge, and relying on memory for refills.

"If done right"? Tune changes; fuel quality, temperature differentials, ( which reminds me, does the FC have intake temp correction?). Further yet, most of us, I assume tweak our own gear, and appreciate the extra diagnostic, even if u cant rely on it 100%

Or I could be totally misled on this piece of mental splat, and require a spanking

    • How's everyone going? Just a shout-out introducing myself. I'm James, I live on the north side of Brisbane. I bought an R33 that had been left to rot in someone's front yard for 14 years. Apparently, it has immobiliser/fuel issues. Long story short, it's suffering from a seized engine, plus whatever else turns up once it runs. The car is pretty good considering it sat for so long. It pretty much died after being imported. It has a bunch of Jap parts and a full Top Secret body kit. It's painted Fiat Turchese Festival, or aqua blue if you're not French. Another project to throw money at!
    • So the clockspring is responsible for the indicators cancelling on their own? I thought that was the function of that white thing in the center (any idea what it's called?)
    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
