hey all just wondering on what the standard suspension handles like and what is the ride height.also i have some tein hr but they too hard, can i change to a softer spring or will it still be as hard as a rock due to the dampening.car is only used on the road as a daily, but i dont want it too low currently about 335 rear and 330 front from centre to guard lip but i need the front a touch higher due to the spoiler scraping.cheers

Standard R32 suspension provides good handling. By "good", I mean "good for a 20+ year old car, good against the competition at the time, etc etc". But really, if the suspension is still stock, then the dampers will be old and therefore stuffed, and therefore not doing anything at all. The springs are comfortable, but a bit too soft for really hard/fast driving especially on Australian roads. The bushes will almost all be rooted. The HICAS tie rod ends and the main tie rod ends and probably most of the ball joints will also be tired and sloppy.

So, in reality, unless you do want to use coilovers (and either spend lots of money on really good ones that can be completely set up the way you want, or take pot luck on the various cheaper ones, which all tend to come with springs that I think are too hard for Aussie roads and damping that usually cannot be adjusted to suit more decently rated springs) then the best bet is to buy some Kings Springs (Low) with a set of good Blistein dampers. Oh, and replace all the bushes with at least polyurethane adjustables. And you will want 24mm adjustable bars front and rear. And 17x8 wheels with 235/45 sticky tyres. Oh, and delete HICAS.

Then it will handle nice.

Ride height should be about 340 - 350.

GTSBoy summed it up in one hit!

I've recently gone the bilstein/king spring route. Couldn't be happier. I have a pair of whiteline adjustable swaybars, and the car handles reasonably well for a street car on 205's - not to mention ride comfort is also good (the car is still a daily). If you go down this path I highly recommend some form of front & rear camber correction to go with the springs.

+1, im rocking bilstein/king springs and they are perfect for daily / spirited driving.

Bundle with adjustable front/rear swaybars and camber/caster bushes and you got a nimble turning car with a soft ride for rough aussie roads :)
