Hi All,

So long story short, I went to get a tune lastnight and my RB25 made a lousy 230HP on 13psi. Tuner said that my VVT solenoid is not engaging & my Blow through MAF (Stock MAF) was maxing out at 5v @ 6500RPM.

QUESTION: Is there any easy way to test the solenoid? I believe it's just stuck or not engaging properly as i have power to the solenoid but nothing happens when it's applied.

The solenoid will be negatively switched. Use a noid light or a LED test light to see if the ECU is switching the earth.

Is there a way to test with the VVL solenoid out of the car?

I've removed it to try and apply power and ground to it and see if it clicks or moves. I get nothing, no clicks no moving parts nada.

to test if its the ecu causing the issue or the solenoid itself, get a small light, a brake light or something and connect it to a plug, with 2 wires. make sure the light works of course, then disconnect the solenoid and connect the light in its place, then run the wire over the engine and over the winscreen and onto the dash board where you can see it.

take the car for a drive and simply see if the light turns on! if it does not switch on then you know you got issues.

i barely ever see issues with the solenoid itself, its always an external factor, but in your case if you have connected power and ground to it, you should hear it and feel it click on and off.
