Recently my 4wd light has been coming on, either when I remote start my car, or if I coast the car in neutral for a bit shortly after starting.

Turning the car off and on fixes the light coming on, any ideas why these things trigger the light the come on? Always restarting my car as I have read having that light on can cause damage

So don't coast in neutral or remote start, seeing as there's no need to do either of those things ever.

But, for the actual problem, one would have to assume that your ATTESSA computer thinks there's a problem. You need to put it into diag mode or get a scan tool connected and see what the codes are.

By coast, not for long periods of time, maybe for like 5-10 meters.

Got a diagnostics cable and running a power fc + hc.

How do I check for errors/enter diagnostics mode

No need to go mechanic or diagnostic tool

When the 4WD light is ON

Open the boot with ignition on and look at the bottom of the 4WD computer should have an LED flashing

Count the flashes then either find a table on google of fault codes or post up here

There should be quick flashes and long flashes

Hope this helps

Had the same issue, In my car it was a dirty signal coming from the TPS that upset the 4wd computer.same guy that diagnosed the problem also fixed it. Sorry im not much help.

  • 2 weeks later...

After stopping for lunch today, getting back into my car the 4WD Light wouldn't go out. The car was stationary (parked).

I checked the boot to look for error codes/lights but couldn't see the little box flashing. is it on the front, left, right or rear?

I had to get back to work, so i put it in RWD mode (brown connector) and just got on with my day.

Next time i got in the car, 20km's later, i put it back to 4WD mode (connected it back up) and it was all sweet..

Is it normal for the 4WD light to just come on randomly when first starting the car? Its never come on while driving since the initial start of the thread.

Of course it's not normal. There is obviously a fault. It just depends whether it is a serious fault with something mechanical, or just a minor fault with a sensor (like the pressure sensor that tends to cause problems).

If you can't see the light yourself, go to a mechanic with a decent scan tool and see what it spits out. Shouldn't cost you more than a 6 pack of beer.

In the GTS4 the attessa computer is mounted underneath the rear parcel shelf, behind the plastic cover in the boot, next to the battery and above the fuel tank.

Mine played up along time ago, randomly doing it when starting the car or coasting, sounded like similar symptoms to what you're having.

Turned out my rear wiper spritzer was leaking when I used it, that would drip down under the parcel shelf (taking some of that foamy yellowish stuff underneath the parcel shelf) and work it's way into the computer.

I noticed it when I took the attessa computer out to have a look at it and had dirty looking stuff sitting ontop of it. Opened it up and gave a good but gentle clean with contact cleaner. Put it back in and hasent been an issue since.

Is the car safe to drive with the 4WD light on?

Or should i continue to put it into RWD mode in the event the light doesn't turn off?

I will have to look into it more over the weekend, its just inconsistent, so i take it the error codes/led's don't blink when the light doesn't come on?

Thanks for all the advice thus far people!

Bit of a thread update, I finally managed to check the error code when it came up again.

I got 7 Long flash's, 5 short. Which i believe is error code 75

Now if only I knew what that meant....from some googling its apparantly the TPS sensor for Vspec models, though mine isn't Vspec!

Has come on ONCE while taking a corner a little harder and giving it some, otherwise only during startup.

Had a look at the TPS voltage from my Apexi power fc hand controller, from memory it was around 0.3v, is this normal voltage? Perhaps thats why its throwing up the error? As because when i accelerate a little while starting and hold it for a few seconds, the error code has never come up again.

Could the reading from the Apexi Power FC be false?

If not, how can i fix it?

Is the .45v reading when the car is on, cranking or just with the ignition on and car off?

Also the reading is when i have the ignition on, not when the car is started/idling.

Ignition on or idling. No difference. Closed throttle is closed throttle and the ECU has a regulated 5v supply to these sensors.

adjust the closed TPS by physically adjusting the position of the switch relative to the shaft. Search and find the howtos (or just look at it with your eyes and see how it's done).

Attessa codes in there

i had this EXACT code come on intermittently for a while staying on for a few days till i reset the 4WD computer

I'll list what i did

In my case:

1st thing i did was readjust the TPS, also running Power fc.was fine for a week then light came on again

2nd Replaced the TPS, again lasted a week or two the light came back on

3rd Replaced the 4WD computer with a known working one, Lasted a month then came on at the track

4th Researched and found a guy in the UK who had same issue and found was a dirty ground on the alternator. So i cleaned the ground on the alternator and was good for a week or two and light came back, this is the weird part when the 4wd light came on this time the HORN stopped working!!!

5th and final!!! Found a dodgy ground on the horn, Replaced the ground and ever since, touch wood, 4wd been working perfectly for well over 2months now

i hope some of this helps!!!

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
