Hey Guys,

I'm a new RB owner and I am hoping to upgrade my computer as the car need a tune. I need some advice on the brands of ECU's I can get, nothing fancy as the car is my daily. I've heard PowerFC is okay? Please help :)

Heya,

If you have a lil extra to play with check out the Link G4.

On it's own it will make a big difference - but then i'm guessing you've got something already :)

An ecu is only as good as the person who tunes it. And if you were to put the same tune into a pfc as a link you won't see any difference.

Will disagree - I've seen the results of moving the same setup from a PFC to a Link G4 Plug in.

The results were massive.

PFC is effectively a factory ECU that's been unlocked, as opposed to the Link, being far more advanced (anti-lag, launch control and all sorts of other goodies)

I do agree that a great ECU with a shite tune is never good, however there are limits to what some ECU's can handle.

Anti-lag, etc has nothing to do with how a car performs because of the tune though. Setup 2 ecu with the exact same tune and they will perform pretty much the same. If you got massive performance gains from changing ecu then the tune wasn't the same. At any given point of the map there is only 1 ideal setting it should be at and it doesn't much matter what ecu is saying how much fuel to go in, or when to fire the spark plugs, as long as they say the right thing at the right time. sure some ecu's allow finer tuning than others, but not to the point of being massively different (unless you are at the limits of an ecu because of other factors such as it needing afms instead of a map sensor, etc). Sure you may have had an experience that says otherwise, but that doesn't change the physics behind it all.

And the pfc isn't just an unlocked stock ecu. It only really has 1 map (2 if you want to get technical, but 1 is fuel, 1 is ignition). The stock ecu has many more (or at least a nistune does).

Heya,

tuning a 34 GT-T can be VERY costly.
Make sure you kow where you want to go from DAY ONE - have a rough power figure in mind and aim to work towards it.

Re: ECU - for heavy modification, i'd recommend a G4 over a PFC. I've had both and whilst the PFC was ok for light modification, if you're wanting to go over the top, it simply doesn't keep up.

Main things to consider before slapping a bigger turbo on and saying done - cooling (GET AN OIL COOLER) fuel and ignition.
Splitfire coils, properly gapped plugs, uprated injectors and pump and a pressure regulator are what you need to be thinking about prior to manifold wastegate and intercooler.

I built my GT-T over several years, and wasted a lot of money on bad advice from the wrong people. Find someone who you can trust and half the battle is won.

Posted a link below to the final build, it makes around 290rkw - doesn't sound like much but with the amount of torque and how light it is, it goes pretty damn hard.
