Hey

So I bought some second hand whiteline sway bars for my r32 gtst (27mm front, 24mm rear). When I attempted to install the 27mm bar in the front I had issues mounting it.

I was told by the guy I bought them off that they would mount with the factory clamps. The issue I am having is that the clamp does seem to fit around the bush.

I am also just chasing basic tips on the best way to change my sway bars as I think I made it pretty hard for myself. What part of the bar to fix in place first etc.

I would assume it would be easier to change the sway bars when the suspension is loaded, am I right?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

"clamp does NOT seem to fit" ???????

I think you need to get new bushes to suit the bar.

The bar is easiest to fit when both sides suspension are the same, namely loaded or unloaded. It is really difficult if you jack one side only.

27's I think tend to need bigger chassis brackets. You can buy them from Whiteline.

Actually changing them is easy. Simply hang the bar loosely from the chassis mounts, connect the ends to the lower arms, then tighten the chassis mounts. If you have moly lube on the chassis bushes then the bar will slide left-right easily enough for you to get it central.

It's easiest on a hoist, because it's good to be able to get the wheels to drop to give some extra space to swing a spanner in the suspension area to loosen the drop links from the lower arms, but yes, it is generally easier to actually pull it apart and put it back together with the wheels up in the wheelwells rather than hanging down.

I have done mine with the car driven up onto ramps at the front (driven up onto blocks basically) to get the room to work under and lower the bar, but it's much easier if you can stand up under the car.

Sorry, the clamp does NOT fit.

Thanks for the advice, I will give that a try sometime through the week hopefully. I also tried doing mine on ramps, there was enough room but a hoist would definitely be the way to go if I had access to one :)

Cheers :)
