R32 gtst, standard RB20det box, tailshaft and diff.

it's had a bad vibration issue for a while.

diagnosed to be the tailshaft centre bearing.

This has been replaced and is much better, but I can now tell there is another vibration / groaning noise coming from further back.

I don't think it's wheel bearings as the sound doesn't change when I load up the left or right side..

Sounds does change with speed wether it's in gear or free rolling.

So....

What needs to be done to my 24 year old diff?

Still paints 2 lines in a straight line.. But I did leave a couple of singles up Mount Glorious.

I had this problem with my R32. Is it a manual conversion? Some guys mix and match driveshafts/weld them up themselves. Mine was about 50mm to short and hung out of the back of the gearbox which got interesting at speed, i ended up getting a custom one made up. it would pay to get your driveshaft balance checked.

It could be many things,

- Driveshaft uni joints

- Diff bearings

Has the diff been shimmed?, this can chew out the diff carrier and cause slop in the assembly. get under your car and give the halfshafts a good shake, if there is a bit of slop that could cause it.
