Hi,

Recently my R33 has been having trouble with hot starts. Ie, will start fine in the morning but if i drive for a while and then stop it wont start straight away.

I have to either push start the car or wait till the car cools down before it turns over again.

The car has an alarm and it looks like everything is disarmed except when i turn the key no signal is getting sent to the starter to kick it over!

Anyone has any ideas what to look into? Does the r33 have a starter relay? or likely to be alarm?

Any suggestions appreciated!!!

cheers

Is the solenoid in the starter motor clicking when you turn the key?

My old XY falcon would do that when hot. The insulation on the copper wire inside the the starter motor had perished, so when it was hot the copper expanded and shorted out.

thanks for the reply.

No noise from the starter motor at all!! I know the first time this happened to me the NRMA got me started by hooking up power directly to the starter motor.

Hence why suspect its the ignition not passing the signal to the starter

Unless someone else on the boards can give you a procedure on how to check continuity between ignition and the starter, you may have to take it to the auto electrician. I would be looking at the connection on the starter first though.

1) Immobiliser?

2) Fuel got water? Did you go to a servo that was refuelling?

3) Turn ignition on > off > on > off > on > try to start?

4) With ignition off > put accelerator to the floor and leave it depressed > then start it?

thanks for the replies guys!

I'm not sure how i can rule out the immobilser and suspect maybe the immobiliser has relays that could be heating up.

Definetly not fuel...

Tried the igntion trick and the accelerator and both have no affect! thanks for the advice.

Coolant temp sensor? How can i check this I have no idea about it!!?

thanks!
