May be your thermostat mate get it checked out to make sure it is functioning well etc

Nip into natrad

But seriously does it go Immediately to hot when you start the car (within a few seconds?) ? If so electrical gremlin

If it takes a bit longer like normal warming up from cold and goes hot after a few minutes - then dont drive it. Get it checked out or the consequences will be serious,, if not already.

Youv'e checked the basics ?

Ie: is full of coolant, flushed it properly, refilled, no air in the system, waterpump working? Therrnostat as above

the cooling system seems to be working fine had the car running for a while it has brand new water pump when i turn the key to on position the temp gauge goes straight to hot but when i turn the engine on it goes straight down and does not move at all the heater works so that tells me that the thermostat is opening up the rpm gauge does not move at all either i dont know if it has anything to do with that or not i know the engine has been changed it is a r32 gtst with a rb20de put in it and previous owner has done the conversion could there be anything he forgot to plug in or anything like that

Think your right. If your RPM and Temp gage are playing up then yeah.

Good luck sorting it. -> Auto electrician time

Edit: Can you swap cluster over with a known working one just to confirm it is wiring and not cluster. (5or6 screws)
