Hey guys!

Hope you aren't absolute trolls and what not, after many years of being a Holden fan (still am, don't hate lol) I decided to switch over to Nissan. Finally graduated uni, got a job and now I'm in debt because I bought a R33 GTR V-spec. I hope to see it arrive early next week as I got the baby shipped :) Excited to do all sorts of mods as it's completely stock!

Hope to learn lots from you guys!

Welcome akira.

post pics when your car arrives.

and as stated, there is a general love for most cars on this forum.

a lot of the users don't even own nissans anymore.

on the troll issue, yes there ate trolls, there are more smart asses.

we try and keep it out of this section though.

hope you enjoy the forum.

and enjoy your new ride.

Welcome Akira, be sure to get all your essentials in order ie. alarm/immobolizer and insurance (minimum third party with fire and theft cover) - if possible try and fork out for atleast the first year with full comprehensive cover as all the unfortunate stuff usually happens in the first few weeks of ownership - which is not something you will be able to cope with when taking out a large loan, we hear too many sad stories on here so do your best to make sure you don't get caught out

coming from Holdens, one thing you will need to adjust to is that Skylines are a magnet to (but not limited to);

- vandalism / random attacks on your car because it's a rice rocket and parts of australia are still bitter about Nissan raping Bathurst and just in general absent minded muppets who just hate jap crap

- theft - plenty being stolen, see link - https://www.google.com.au/search?q=site%3Askylinesaustralia.com+stolen&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

- police - defects / more attention

- carjackings (quite a few going on recently)

Not saying these will all happen becuase you have a skyline, but there are more cases than not to be cautious about

being in QLD you have access to one of the best security/audio installers in Aus, and is very familiar with Skylines - Chris Rogers who is a regular on SAU;

He heads up Audio Express;

all the best mate, do the right thing by your beast and you can look forward to many years of rewarding motoring to come

Welcome.

As stated above this forum is a lot more about guys that love cars no matter what brand they are.

Most of us love our skylines but have much love for other cars too.

Post up some pics of your new ride when you get your hands on it.

Hey guys!

Many thanks for the replies, nice to know there are some decent people on here! Sorry for the late reply, where I live I am lucky to have internet working haha! I'm more than aware of the risks involved in getting a skyline but I just had to have one. I've had my V6, super 6, V8. All that's left is a turbo, why not twin turbo haha!
Got my car last friday and boy I'm glad I got into skylines, better yet, I'm glad I got a GTR. Better yet, a reliable one! Previous owner was a female, mother of 2 and I personally knew her. car had only been used to cart kids to school. I believe this is very rare to come across when buying a skyline seeing as most I've seen are thrashed, which annoys me a bit, but that's me. Enough chatter, here are some pics!

Mind the back end. Don't have the tools to raise it yet lol!
I'll be reading and posting lots of n00b questions in the near future so I apologize in advance if they come off as stupid haha!
First list of mods are to do exhaust, intake, ecu and o2 sensor as it likes to guzzle fuel at the moment! This car is a dream to drive! I plan to keep this for some time. Well, so my bank loan tells me :P

Yeah, rear coil overs were replaced last week, don't have the tools to raise it yet. All in due time lol!

big pair of multi grips is what I use.

Can be bought from supercheap auto for around $30 IIRC.

A lot more uses than the c spanners too.....

  • 5 weeks later...

For people who read this, finally got all my parts ordered and at my mates garage ready to install it this weekend (assuming there is no rain)

Got some:

Splitfire coilpacks

Boost controller

Turbo Timer

Full exhaust

O2 sensors

Keeping in mind car is practically stock except for coilovers!

What mods do you recommend next peeps? I'm looking towards intercooling, fuel related mods, N1 turbo's and ecu in one hit. Wouldn't know how much power I can expect from that! Would love to hit 300kw ATW but unsure what other work/mods would be required. It's a gradual process! :D

ok, next id aim for turbos, injectors and ecu.

the stock intercooler will handle those power levels with ease.

maybe go for a decent brand of adjustable cam gears, ive heard these give great "bang for buck", even with stock cams.

and get it all tuned in one hit.

what ecu are you going with?

Yeah I've had many discussions about coolers. People say no, others say yes.. But living in 30+ degree constantly.. I think it may be worth while. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

In other news, thought I'd share an update on my car!

Fixed the boost and spark issue now! Very happy with this car, now goes to 13psi nicely and safely!

Got turbo timer in, cat back exhaust, splitfire coilpacks, gapped plugs, pods.

All in all, makes nice sounds and is great to cruise into work on Friday's.. Because I have to get motivated to work on the last day of the week haha!

wash, wax, clay bar and polish!

have you got a cover over the pods?

if not, theyre just sucking hot air.

and dont worry about the temps, a stock cooler will work great in 30+ heat.

thicker coolers CAN restrict airflow to the radiator, which is alot more important to cool than the intake air temp.

glad to hear youre enjoying your car :)

Yes actually! Should be in in the next week or so :)

But yeah, stilll in debate wth cooling... for now, it's just great as it is! Did not think turbo cars can be this fun. I love the go fast button I must say (boost controller)

Yeah one to keep for a while!

Nice car also dude!

Get some black wheels and we can be twins lol.

I'm currently working on a cold air intake . Done some research and don't think anyone else it.

When I finish, ill post up a pic. Like Luke said dont want to suck any hot air in.

haha should've got an android :P Thanks mate, I have been thinking about black wheels, I best investigate and photoshop what wheels I may like haha!! Nice to know other people have the same car as me!

I look forward to seeing some pics mate. If you live in QLD, would be good to meet up, even do a photoshoot!

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
