In Sydney i found Tempe tires to be the cheapest option and from what i understand they import the rubber directly from manufacturer. i got my Khumos from them for $160 each and everywhere else including BOBJANE and Jax tires who are meant to price match said they can only do it for $240 for the same rubber. RRP $300 each

Check out Ebay store for Tempe tires as they sometimes put up specials including balance, fitment , alignment and the works if you buy 2 or more tires

Got to be careful on those ultra bargans, sometimes they are imported out of date stock

Besides the odd pair of semi slicks I get most mine from a local place I have a decent relationship with. Not worth the the time and effort to drive a hour half round rrip to save a little cash

i hear pretty good things from tempe tyres

also, they would most likely have stock on wider and bigger tires

the regular commercial places like jax and bob jane don't tend to stock what we fit on our cars

i need 285/35/20

Certain tyre places score bulk buys through 'parallel buying'.

For example, Tempe Tyres often have good deals on Kumho or Continental.

Taleb and Tempe both buy massive quantities to furnish other tyre shops (who source their tyres through them).

NTW themselves deal only with retailers and don't have any of their own outlets.

The rectangular block on the side of each tyre tells you the #week#year as a 4 digit number.

So, if you see the number 3209 in the little rectangle, the tyre was made in the 32nd week of 2009.

They dry, and go hard. That reduces the grip they can provide. You see really old tyres cracking. A lot of the time these cheapie special shops sell very old stock. Well worth asking the date of manufacture as Terry said.

When I bought off tire rack, tires were 3 months old. Very impressed.
