Hey guys,

Just a couple of quick questions - Im heading down to Daikokufuto this weekend

Is it better to go Friday or Saturday?

What times?

Roughly how much will the taxi from the train station cost from the train station?

I plan on bring a heap of warm clothes and a take away meal, I have no doubt there will be vinding machines for warm drinks there too. Im planning on staying a while but roughly what times?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys

Rent a car it will be cheaper. No need to take food as there's anything from Indian curry to Macca's available. Cops shut it down pretty early these days so I'd get there reasonably earlyish around 7pm, have some food and kick back. You can't really tell which night will be better and weather can dictate how many people show up. Keep in mind the days of lots mental cars turning up are long gone. Seriously your better off grabbing a rental car for a couple of days and check both nights and have the fun of cruising around Tokyo. Check the link below , all in english but your probably out of time to book for tomorrow. http://www2.tocoo.jp/?file=rentcar_inbound/main&asp_id=0001

You can also grab a car from these guys in Otori which has subway station across the road and is easy as to get to plus heaps of cheap hotels around the area with parking. You can get english navigation and Daikoku is about 15mins down the expressway. http://nissan-rentacar.com/english/shop/tokyo/shop127.html

Thanks guys for your input! It's much appreciated!

I took your advice and hired a car.. Daikokufuto is a far way from Asakusa. But we used the car to go to Mt. Fuji and planned to go to the Fish markets the next morning.

.. but ..

About 5 min Daikokufuto, at a red light a van crashed into our car at considerable speed. Luckily my girlfriend who was the third person and in the back seat was ok. It was a Nissan March (now I'm very glad there was no Kei Cars available - which we were very upset about at the time).

All this happened about 5 min down the road near Yokohama.

To rub salt in the wounds we saw a fair few cars heading past us too.. and a few Bosozoku boys making fun of the police (which are even more polite, helpful and friendly than the rest of Japan) .. which brightened up our night a little.

We will see what will happen with the insurance tomorrow morning at Nissan Rental place.. but needless to say.. after not making it there tonight.. I will be there for at least next Saturday.

You should be fine with the insurance .

If its through proper Nissan rental and the car is drivable your looking at worst 20,000yen. A write off would cost 50,000yen.

Even the cheap rental companies in Japan have the same insurance deal so i would not be too stressed.

Hope you and the police got the other driver details , especially if he was in the wrong as you can sue his arse off and he will have to pay your excess and anything else you want from him in cash !!
