* Our state government is very focused on revenue raising

* Free money for little outlay comes from speeding fines

* Police are staking out spots they've not frequented before

* Hundreds more mobile speed cameras are about to activate

* Stay within the speed limit and pay attention

Q. How do I know this?

A1. I belong to 3 car clubs, and it's come to my attention that 3 senior members have lost their licences in the past 3 days - all through strategically placed lidar guns.

A2. A HWP officer goes to my church

Do not ask me who these 3 people are. That's not the point.

No wonder why, I stopped at an intersection where a HWP was adjacent to me, I had a green light and was on my way, 10 seconds later I got pulled over by HWP 2 meters from my house :yucky:

Had me pop my bonnet for to check for turbo and coilovers but they couldn't defect a stock rock!

We as car enthusiasts have acted more than appropriately given the media negatively targeting us and the increasing police crackdown on import owners.

I think some sort of uprising is essential in all honesty so these scare tactics being used dont become increasingly more and more unreasonable. Rather than copping it on the chin and accepting this, we should take a stand.

As for the mobile speed cameras..absolutely ridiculous. I guess we can thank the people who voted in the Labour government - as this government was the reason mobile speed cameras initially spawned in the first place.

I mean look at the German government, they SPEND money to properly train their drivers with resultant lenience in terms of the speeds they are allowed to travel at e.g. the Autobahn. Here they just implement scare tactics so motorists go slower and slower, and driver skill continues to diminish.

The slower speed limits increasingly being enforced here contribute to increased traffic congestions, increased collisions with other vehicles etc. Look at the M4 motorway....its chaos there most of the time and there has been many accidents on there due to the congestion. Compare that to the Autobahn and I know which road I'd rather travel on.

Bit off topic, but if you are pulled over for no reason ie; "randomly" so you have to stay in the vehicle or can you get out of your car and stand on the footpath to discuss the issue with the officer who stopped you??

You're required to stay in your vehicle. If you step out, they will ask you to go back in. You can only step out when they request you to pop your bonnet.

f**ken gold

You could get a job with the daily telegraph

There is no such requirement. However by stepping out of the vehicle prior to the officer coming to speak with you, you're always shooting yourself in the foot by doing so. If you do want to step out and discuss it, ask in a polite manner and if your offer is declined so what, you don't need to be out of your car to use your mouth.

Thinking that you've been pulled over for "no reason" is the absolute wrong attitude to approach this. You're being pulled over for a reason, for example: Random Breath Test is a reason, Traffic violation... whatever. So when you see the blue and red behind you don't get all "wut da f*k did i do bro???" or again, you're just hurting yourself. the #1 thing to do of improving your chances of receiving an infringement is be HONEST and polite.

Our Government is lazy and they're not interested in the big picture, the last person whom I thought made decisions because HE thought it was for the good of Australia was John Howard. The current PM and previous one are just vote grabbers and are only interested in the popularity game not what's best for the country.... they're just not in power long enough to make big decisions and if they did (Like get rid of speed cameras etc); they'll lose votes and lose their position. I don't disagree with Lidar guns but I do disagree with speed cameras and red light speed cameras. The "No Rego" sticker is rubbish too, that's also a money grab so that people will drive whilst out of rego ... they're setting up cameras to automatically read your number plate and catch you. Not only do they save money by not giving you a sticker anymore, they're doubling dipping by doing this too.

Whilst you shouldn't be driving unregistered the mindset that goes behind this is immoral and disgusting. I steered off topic massively I just didn't stop typing... haha.

PS: Yes, the M4 is crap and needs to be fixed. I patrol from the old toll gates all the way to East -> Parramatta road where it comes out at Strathfield/Burwood. There's ALWAYS accidents at the Homebush Bay Dr exit, just before the slip lane starts.

hmmm, dont think so, the reason for pulling me over was to try and defect me.

random would have been him travelling dirrectly behind me and pulling me over.

NOT coming up the inside of approx 5-10 cars into a left turn only lane at traffic lights, waiting for the green, slipping straight in behind me, test, then STRAIGHT onto engine and wheel questions.

thats not random, thats targeted.

second response to the "honest".

i say, within reason.

the officer asked what size wheels my vehicle came out with, i stated i didnt know as i would have been defected.

i knew he was hunting for me to trip up.

if i was honest, i would have been defected.

i wasnt speeding(definitly-other traffic and watching speed)

the car is stock besides lowered and wheels.

my driving record isnt too bad.

Does anyone know if a good or bad driving record is going to help you be or not be pulled over?

I'm not sure if this has been thought about before... But if you don't speed, you can't be fined for speeding...

Speeding fines are a voluntary tax.

Now before anyone gets piss and claiming me an "angel" for never having sped, I've paid my voluntary taxes before... ;)

The Quote: "Stay within the speed limit and pay attention" already mentioned. > Implies 2 actions.

Now we don't want ADD to cause an infringement do we?

Sorry, forgot to mention school zone. All school zones should be 25 km/h, 26 km/h = car crushed. All "non-hoon" cars are exempt of course, so that parent swerving all over the lane doing 55 is fine, you driving a car with shiny exhaust tip? RBT time.

I have no problem with speed cameras. If u dont speed u dont get fined or lose points. Speed cameras, mobile or fixed aren't a problem. Drink drivers and actual hoons are a problem as are fatigued drivers. Middle aged men who can't time manage properly and leave for work 20 mins late and HAVE to tailgate in their sporty as f**k Mazda 6 are a problem also. Just sayin'

    • Excuse me, but 2) does apply 1) Would also apply if you consider how much is spent in the alternatives. Also there's the option of 3), buy one pre-built that you can put your family in (it's me, it's my car)   That said, I went on a ~500km drive the other day. I didn't use anything more adventurous than 3rd/4th gear at about ~3000RPM and 50% throttle and I was going as fast as anyone has any sense doing on a public road, with enough grip to the point where I didn't want to go any faster. I was obviously under the limit of the current car etc etc. MX5 with 2.5 N/A to achieve the same speed would be more fun for any road scenario. Maybe consider cams. I wouldn't boost it. The use case is just not there and it won't actually make the car more enjoyable unless you really do plan on wringing gears from 1st to 3rd (at least) at 100% WOT on a public road to 150+kmh.
    • Great if: 1. You had all of the money for everything else that is required  2. Lived in a country where you could actually do this and drive it legally on the road Sadly, neither applies to me As for the turbo, I am having second thoughts, mainly for engineering/registration legality reasons and insurance  Not saying I've finished doing stupid things that I probably should do to the MX5, but boost, and V8 engine swaps isn't on the cards Strange, but true
    • I like this page, better than that silly turbo kit   https://v8roadsters.com/product-category/engine-conversions/engine-conversion-lsx/engine-conversion-lsx-nc/

    • Yes shipping here can be a pain, was about to purchase timing belt replacement kit, but it tends to get expensive due to shipping (and customs if importing from non-EU which the UK now falls under).
