Did you get another brake master or are you just going to run a standard one? Curious to hear how different it feels

Ah yes, I forgot to say!

I contacted Holford about the BMC and they were very quick to send out a new one! Great customer service!

However, the BMC did not arrive prior to me moving, so it was delivered to my old address and I have somebody coming to visit this weekend that will be bringing it with them so I haven't been able to fit the new one. I will see how things go this weekend at Wakefield Park and decide whether or not I should fit the new BMC prior to NSW Time Attack. If I feel like things are ok then I don't want to touch the car prior, but if it feels like it is an issue then I will definitely get on it!

Video from yesterdays NSCC Wakefield Park day

I was able to crack into the mid 1:09 second mark. I feel the car still had more in it though, I was still just getting used to the brakes. I also think the RS3's that are on it are starting to see their limits so will be taking 2 fresh sets to NSW Time Attack. Overheating issues are completely gone, I was doing full sessions worth of hot lots and the only thing letting me down was the tyres.

The video above was my first sub 1:10 for the day, I did a few more cleaner runs (too lazy to search through all my footage) where I began to stop using 2nd gear which seemed to clean my lines up a bit more. No pics at this stage but if I find some I will post a couple up.

Aside from the re-wired walbro, is that the only change you've made to the fueling (fuel-tank end)? Don't experience any fuel surge when competing?

Great thread Tim.

Thanks mate.

Only fuel related mods are injectors and fuel pump with rewire.

I have only experienced fuel surge one when the fuel light had already been on for 2 laps at Wakefield, which surprises me to be honest.

Curious to hear what you thought of the brakes and what you have to get "used to"

I miss Wakefield...hell I miss track days :(

So far I'm impressed with the brakes. I just need to get used to the different pedal feel, I suspect the bigger brake master cylinder will stiffen up the pedal feel but I don't want to risk changing it and having problems at NSWTA.

Well guys, NSW Time Attack is done and dusted. Pretty happy with how the car performed over the weekend, and managed to score myself a new PB of 1:09.0 :)

I will get some pics up later on but for now, here is the video of my fastest lap

I was running Hankook RS3 265/35R18 on all four corners.

I quite like the tyres, they are noisier and go off quicker then an R comp, but for a street legal tyre they have a lot of grip and are very predictable when the do start to lose grip. I have found running them at 33-34psi (hot) in the Skyline is the best for me, and they appear to wear very evenly. I would definitely recommend them.

I had 2 fresh sets for the weekend (I had to drive over on 1 set - about 200kms)

I scrubbed in the second set doing some laps at the Speed Off The Streets day on the Friday.

After doing around 40 laps per set you can still see the little flame logos on both sets of tyres, so tread is not too worn.

So things have been a bit quiet, to be honest the car sat on stands for like the last 3 weeks lol. I did an engine and diff oil change and the car sat there up until the weekend just gone.

I will be attending Nulon Nationals this Friday, as I have been invited by the Nulon team, though I'll still be cheering for the SAUNSW team ;) . If you're there, come say hi.

Things have been slow with the car because I've been recouping some funds spent in preparing the car for NSWTA and keeping quiet. I'm trying to plan ahead and decide whether this is the car I want to continue racing with, not that I have anything wrong with this, would just love to either really kick things up a notch power wise (I've done practically everything else that I wanted to now), or alternatively move on to a dedicated track car. I have made no real decision - only time will tell. The difficulty is, as always when selling modified cars, I know how much I'll lose out on if I sell this car lol.

Anyway, will post vids and/or pics after this weekend ^_^

What car do you think you would get if you changed to something else?

Honestly.... I don't know lol. Would love to get a GTR, but don't think I could justify the cost of modifying to my liking and tracking it. Realistically I think I just need to keep tracking this one and enjoy it for now lol.

^^ Provided you're not planning on winning championships, the 2wd R chassis has a number of things that make it a good fun thing to own and drive on track. And you do get to the point of not being prepared to cut losses once you've gone down the path of track modifications. I'd say keep driving it if it makes you grin each time after a run.

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
