Stop thinking start doing!

Have you seen this, pics of dump fab included!

lol it's disco man, 100000000% theory first

He's been talking about his turbo upgrade for ages, in that time I've already fitted mine and got the car running hahah

Since the start of this thread I completed an entire engine build, with turbo selection and setup, and am now 90% through converting it to highmount.

And my life is consumed by work and my partner.

Disco must build bridges in his spare time, or at least he should so he can get over this dump pipe issue.

Disco, for reference... The HKS produced dump (the one that looks like a snail shell) is really simplistic in design.

Its a 3" pipe off the dump with a hole cut in it on the downward bend. They then section another 3" bend so it covers the WG port off the back of the turbo and curls around to the hole they cut for the WG flow.

Why don't you get one made like that?

ROFL, he's probably part of the team that built the Burj Khalifa

If it were 3x as long I might have some respect for it.

LOL he could be! Actually I think Disco does something engineerish with trains (from memory anyway), so maybe hes trying to build the bridge before the train gets there.

CHOO CHOO!!

CORRECTION: I've actually also built and had tuned a turbo sigma since the start of this build... 2 engines, 2 turbo selection and setup, 3 tunes. This must be one hell of a dump pipe.

LOL It's sold in a known working bolt on kit (by HKS), which many people have used and none have complained.. I owned one, and sold it to another member who also had great success. I'd say it works, regardless of who respects it.

In the pipe next week .

Also considering a turbine housing cover bag because I doubt the OE shields are usable on a GT30 . I was looking a pair of them on a TT Harley this afternoon and a friend at a workshop that's into this kind of thing (bikes and ATVs) says Rockets ones are good .

Turbo bags work well enough, also reasonably easy to fit.

Only downside might be if you get a bit of oil leakage into the beanie material.

Ceramic coating will cost about the same, probably work about the same too.

ACL heat shield works great, but will take a lot of effort to fit around the area where you want it.

Go with the beanie idea and get the dump finished.

Sorry mate, beat you to it again (LOL).

A mate and I got together and knocked this together in about 4 hours last night. First time we have attempted anything like it.

Get onto it!!

It starts Monday , ATM impossible to make 30IW dump with a GTRS in use .

That's the trouble with daily drivers and being rostered to work any time of the day or night . My friends can't fab stainless and if mild was acceptable it would be running by now . Can't reliably wrap mild steel so have to wait .

Today looking at IW heat bag , exy but limited time to get everything ready and don't want heat issues .

mod your stock heat shield and make a bracket to it mounts to the 2x bolts that hold the power steering reservoir in place.. I'm going to do that and make a cut out for my external gate..

should look "stock enough" and reduce chances of melting away cables

100-150 to get a turbo bag. 150-175 for ceramic coating a housing. Neither option is terribly exxy.

Stainless is more expensive material, and of course you can reliably wrap mild steel. Budget around $5/metre for exhaust wrap, and you'll need about 6 metres to be sure you've covered enough.

Bonus with mild steel is you can try something different if you're not happy for some reason. And you can duplicate in stainless later on if you want it to last forever.

Surely you could swing a deal with Mick-o if you ask nicely. As he'd posted previously, his work was good enough to flow 450rwhp worth of airflow so it will also handle yours.

Turbo etc fit Monday then relocate to an exhaust fitter I guess Monday or Tuesday . Done .

Going with bag to suit IW housing . I did see a thread at a Suby site this morning about shields formed out of the ACL louvered mat .

Spent an hour with a die grinder this afternoon reshaping the turbine housing inlet because the 16mm T3 spacer is wider than the housings inlet port . It's now not quite as wide as the spacer but a radius is better than a square edge .

I think the only think left to do is make Scotty's inlet pipe matt black .

The things I hope will make this turbo feel reasonably responsive .

Headwork inc OS exhaust valves

256 Tomeis

Matched std manifolds

3.5" bell mouth front/dump .

Fingers crossed it'll wake up at 26-2800 revs and start to shove at 3000+ .

A .

I tapped two holes into the spacer ao I could mount a heat shield off of it. Then made a shit temporary ally shield that has been there for a year! Really should fix that.
