Dale FZ1
Post some pics of your setup please Adrian If you've retained the stock airbox (pics will tell us that) that should go a long way towards muffling the whistle as it spools. I noticed mine got a fair old shriek somewhere up around the middle/high rpm range (4500-6000ish) when on full boost (for me that was ~18-19psi) but nothing exceptional otherwise. With an eye on the ball you shouldn't expect it to be a boost-happy unit if that means it jumps into meaningful positive manifold pressure at 2500rpm with light throttle. You'll get used to the progressive delivery and the likely need to make gearchanges in places where the old GTRS would give those extra few Nm of torque. Fact is (IMO) it's the comparative lack of response in those situations that gives less airflow and results in less fuel burn hence economy. But the engine works so much better over a wider range that you wouldn't want it any other way once it's got proper fuelling and ignition to suit. It's hard to believe that ~6mm difference in impeller sizes can make so much difference to overall performance characteristics. On topic of this thread, I hope you covered the nice black paint on the dump pipe with lagging before you installed it? I found the regular glass weave from truck spares cost effective and not that difficult to work with. Just wear rubber gloves and dunk the wrap in water before you actually work with it. The stuff pulls down nice and firm as it dries off. discopotato03
Yep just got th missus camera organised and will take a few snaps soon . Gee these pics are more sought after than those I posted of GT30IW turbine housings when they first came out . No you've got me on the dump insulation wrap and yes the tower and guard get a bit warm on the off side . From memory we used to use Thermotec stuff but it was exy . New thread needed as this ones just about run its course . A . FordyR31
I couldnt have the stock airbox with my low mount GT3076 IW setup, it kept wanting to stall when I backed off. How do people get around this? Here is a pic of how mine was setup. Reducer off the turbo, 3" pipe to the Z32 amf. Still has BOV and breather hose plumbed up. Would love to keep the airbox if I could just stop the stalling. discopotato03
Pix . FUUUUUUUUUUQ . Got about 20 but the file sizes are too big to upload so I'll get my tech support to make them smaller only other things to do ATM . Some of the GTRS as well which wasn't as tiny inside as I thought . Gotten used to looking at GT2554Rs and Hitachis of late . BTW the last post has a pic of a dryer with a T04S compressor housing on it . I got nuked here for having the gaul to say they look BIG and I still think they do . I have a pic of a FP30xxHTA that has the more "compact" FP FAP compressor housing on it which is based on a TD06 casting . These are what FP option on HTA based turbos for clockwise rotation Mitsys ie DSMs and Super Poos , and now on GT30BB cartridges if you don't want the silent cop option . My engine bay with the std air box and duct looks virtually factory till you see the spacer bag and dump . Back soon , A . discopotato03
And the HTA with FAP comp housing . Still itching to know how FP3073HTAs perform and this would be the easiest way to have one . Scottys inlet pipe is 80mm and the FAP inlet is 84 , too easy . The tag says RED so that'd be a HTA76 from memory . A . Dale FZ1
Nice work. It's all hidden down deep so difficult to spot anything. The dump pipe design was really a major subject of this thread. Did you get any pics of it prior to installation? Going by the cast wheel and the fact it's a DSM Red the odds are it's probably the old Garrett/Mitsi hybrid journal bearing turbo - I'm thinking. I too would love to see an HTA3073 on an RB25, I think it'd be a rather good thing. discopotato03
Thanks for that , must have been another pic of your setup I mentioned earlier and that's about as inoffensive as an external set up gets to look on a 25 with a std manifold I reckon . Dose Pipe Sutututu
gives you an idea of how you can mount the stock shield, coincidentally the stock holes of the shield line up to the power steering reservoir bracket Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/421858-gt30iw-fitting-hardware-whats-goodbadugly/page/6/#findComment-7223245 Share on other sites
discopotato03
So I gather it floats clear of the turbo itself being mounted to the tower . A . scotty nm35
Looks good Johnny. I don't know about inoffensive though. The gate stands out a little too much imo, it just needs to be camouflaged or hidden under something stock looking. Shame there is no room under the turbo... fmlycar
So a 30mm spacer would be require to low mount a gtx3582 sized turbo? What length exhaust studs would be required? Would rather low mount and keep everything as hidden as possible, not that it's an issue where I'm located. Will be external gate also. fmlycar
Anyone able to give a definately answer about what size spacer is needed to fit a 3582 sized turbo low mounted? I'd rather buy the right size once so I don't have so much down time between turbo swaps. What length studs too?
