Thanks mate I think what I will do is plasti gauge the new bearings and if I'm not happy then pull the crank out. I will let you know how I end up thanks for the help much appreciated.

Use my trick take the clutch off. put a bolt in where the clutch bolts on to the flywheel and a bolt in where the gearbox bolts go. The wrap some wire around the 2 10 - 15 times depending on the wire thickness.

This was enought for me to undo flywheel bolts without the crank turning

What about the old trick of two flywheel bolts and a big flat blade screwdriver or pry bar in between and get someone to hold while you breaker bar the bitch out, 3ft waterpipes for each end maybe required.
